Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

As of 10th July, it was said "within a few weeks of launching" for the "Rainfall modelling in Africa" project.

Whether that sticks and just how soon it will be, only time will tell.

I can't wait for those projects to start. I plan on buying several Ryzen 7 machinese to support the climate research cause. I wish to be in the top 1000 in the world for points generated.

@Texas
That sounds amazing! Are you okay with the power consumption? I got two Rizen desktops like six months ago and the power usage was higher than I was expecting.

So waiting for some climatology projects! Not that the others are not important, but... I was hoping for some news. Patience. The most noble of virtues.

Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

The climate isd showing runaway features, even wildfires On Greenland, but WCG isnt exactly in a rush, albeit the current beta for ARP1 seems to be pretty much concluded. See

August being the main holiday month on the northern half of the ever hotter and polluted planet, don't count on anything launching other than what in past was referred to as a 'technical launch', low key.

The new 7nm ryzen 3 machines should really cut power. My 12nm ryzen 2 is amazing compared to the 22nm 5820K I have.

Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

I am delighted that the climate change project is finally up. Right now it looks like they have 5 years of computing up and it takes about an average of 24 hours to complete each module. So far, I have not been able to get any modules, but hopefully that will change as time goes by and the project gets more established.

Re: We're Ready to Support Climate Change and Environmental Research

Hello everyone,

A quick update on where we stand with the two remaining environmental/climate change projects.
  • Emory University - The project will use a research application developed by the researchers at Emory University. While the Emory team continues their work on developing the scientific algorithms, we're in the process of putting in place the grant agreement with them. Once both activities are complete, we will start the work to integrate the research application into World Community Grid. Ideally, we would launch this project later in the year, but due to the pandemic, everything else is moving much more slowly.
  • Far Eastern Federal University - One of the two principal investigators for this proposed project has moved to a new university in a different country. Far Eastern Federal University is not going forward with the project at this time.

We'll update you once we begin onboarding the Emory project - in the meantime, we're focusing on the upcoming OpenPandemics project and our existing projects.

Thanks for your support,
Juan
