Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

Maybe this was forgotten, pilots have checklists for this reason tongue, or decided on leaving it be, but, just noticed switching project profile, that the 8 threaded has 324 tasks in progress... > 40 per thread.

Yeah, it's still 70 per thread.

Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

We are going to leave it there for now. The project mix that we are currently running has mostly predicated run durations. This means that the BOINC estimation mechanism should work reasonable well and not overfill people's cache. If we see an uptick in overdue or late results or users start reporting overfilled caches, then we will reconsider.

Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

Sorry, I don't remember what happened in April.
However, yesterday I was surprised to see tens of very short WU's for FAAH vina.
What was the purpose?

This has happened numerous times with FAAH vina units. Every so often they a bunch of real shorties taking 5 to 10 minutes each. The purpose it to crunch the units regardless of the length. BOINC will eventually adjust based on your cache settings.
Cheers

'Was burning some oil, and looked in at 00:57 UTC if the stats lockout had started, but instead, to my great surprise, the timestamp of 'last updated 00:06:03 UTC' was already staring back at me... We can almost say 'Lock Out, What Lock Out ;?'.

It's also nice to see how the IBM cloud got that settled, compared to old servers?!

Techs, do you like the new cloud? wink

Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

You might have another issue with interoperability with other BOINC projects that share client crunching resources. If another project (eg: milkyway@home) uses a BOINC version that is different than yours, it will not accept the new redirection to the IBM Cloud. When I received the message to abort the project and add it with the manual redirect, it would not accept it. However, my clients seem to work without the redirection. Hope this helps. I know from past experience that some "anomalies" are hard to find.

Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

Not what you're saying, but I'm using a different version than IBM's and got no detach/readd messages, in fact the techs advised to ignore the misdirecting message as it would resolve itself.

Re: World Community Grid Moves to IBM Cloud

Please keep us informed. Saturday night I log in to see the site under maintenance. Sunday morning I check my results to find that I have only 7 results. Sunday night and Monday morning I find that I have zero results. I look at my computers to find that there are a lot of results uploading so something is wrong with WCG accepting results. Luckily, I had enough tasks so far to keep my computers going but I do not remember there ever being a problem lasting this long and I will run out sometime today. IBM contributes over 100,000 results a day so I am sure they saw this problem a lot quicker than I did. Just tell us when we can expect a resolution so we can take appropriate actions.
