Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

If the HSTB hopper on the server is replenished all day long, then scheduled BOINCCMD is no longer needed and the procedure RetiredTech described will work. That is what I normally do. There was a time just a few weeks ago when HSTB was only available at 10:03Z, 10:33Z, 11:03Z, 11:33Z, 12:03Z and 12:33Z as gb009761 has stated.]

For the past week or two I've had my 5 core machine set exclusively for HSTB (with a 2 day queue request). Most of the work units come at the times everyone has discovered but there has also been a fairly steady drip of other WUs at random times. During the week my hopper stays pretty full but on the weekends it usually averages 3 WUs being crunched at any particular time (but still random ones coming in very slowly).

So it looks like there is hope for me to turn my lungs from a nice healthy red to a pretty phlemy green...

/well my badge anyway

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

I have been letting my 4 computers ask for more HSTB on their own without using the scheduled boinccmd and have gotten just 1 HSTB task in 4 days. I haven't tested setting the client to ask every time a job is complete.

If I were desperate for HSTB I would be switching back to using scheduled boinccmd.

Cheers coffee

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

Been using the fill cache to 2 days with other desired project, then set cache to 2,5 days and only HTSB, getting all I can stand and only have to switch to other projects about once a week. gone from 60 days completed to over 180 since restart

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

I have Windows 10 currently without the latest Creators update. Every time I try and set my clock to be exact from time.is I seem to be able to only get within about .5 of the second either in front or behind. Is anybody else seeing a similar problem? I have had it exact previously. My web browser is Firefox

Not an direct answer to your problem as to why something has changed - but a workaround that may help in the meantime until resolved... (or you might want to consider this as a permanent possibility anyway).

Run a little program here called "automachron" (search for achron5.exe ) on all windows machines that syncs with an NTP server every five minutes to maintain the windows clock constantly within a handful of milliseconds.

Run NTP servers on Linux here and sync to one of these, but automachron works just as well syncing to one of the many open NTP servers available on the Internet. Just pick one that is close ip wise to minimise transmission delays

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

I have windows 7 and the automatic update doesn't seem to work. Whenever I check the Windows clock, it always seem to say that it successfully synchronized a short time in the past. However, when I test, https://time.is/ reports the time way off. Just now the last reported time sync was 7 hours ago and was 29 seconds off. When I do a manual time update https://time.is/ then tells me that my time is exact. d oh

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

For setting time very accurately and running as a Windows service, I recommend the Windows port of ntpd at https://www.meinbergglobal.com/english/sw/ntp.htm.

Re: Using Scheduled boinccmd to get HSTB Work

0.2 second is good enough for most purposes! Also note that ntpd needs an hour or two to reach a steady state, longer with a less stable internet connection. It also depends on the NTP servers you are configured to use, local ones being preferable; ones provided by your ISP are generally the best choice, and those from the NTP Pool Project are a good second choice.
