Re: Windows 10

Finally with th AU update the Office 365/2016 Excel is working again... not crashing on launch.

In case someone notices poorer (inter)networking, try this: http://betanews.com/2016/08/10/slower-internet-windows-10-anniversary-update/

Mine is terrible particular when Onedrive is synchonizing, but disabling autotuning (i9s on norma) made no difference. (WCG is a complete slug ATM)... seeing softlayer implementation being tested, maybe that's the reason?

Does the torture never stop? NO, not with MS products: http://borncity.com/win/2016/08/12/ie-11-secu...causing-issues/#more-1248

IE11 comes with Windows 10, and it had to be, because Desktop Office depends on the IE engine, albeit an older version and the web based Office does so too.

(It took me many hours of recoding, and even more days of testing before I got the Supplemental Charts to run again, quasi, as certain VBA code under W10 rubbished some memory segments that holds the declared variants. So I'm running the chart scripts 1 by 1 instead of serial, where it somewhere looses the plot, ending up with an unsave-able workbook after execution)

(So funny SAP recommends to upgrade to W10... OFL)

@SekeRob
Why don't you move to Linux?
You invested so much effort over the years, it is a pity to have to struggle again and again at each new windows version (and now at each new update) because of this unreliable OS.
Cheers,
Yves

Recently finished moving mine to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS dual boot Win7. There were a few headaches along the way but they're all running fine now. One thing I have learned is that Linux updates can also be problematic. Especially kernel and diver updates. I have them all set to check for updates but let me decide what to install. Many Linux gurus have advised me that once you get them set up and running to your liking don't do updates. Comes from the mindset that Linux was originally designed for the server environment, not desktops, so if your desktop ain't broke don't try to fix it.
Love the 35-40% faster than windoze processing times on the Vina tasks.

Re: Windows 10

Hi Nanoprobe,
over the years, I operate Linux hosts for a long time: Ubuntu 10.04, 12.04, 1404 and LinuxMint 17.x
I did never experience trouble with kernel updates. You need only to reboot the host after a kernel update. I do reboot as well after glibc updates.
What I did never do is to upgrade from a LTS version to the next LTS without fresh installation. Even if the Linux/Ubuntu teams try to do (and do) an excellent and reliable job, my "long" experience causes me to never upgrade an Operating System without fresh installation (regarding this point, I handle equally Linux, Unix and Windows).
Cheers,
Yves

Being a Linux noob probably had something to do with update issues. I let the first update just do its thing and it would not reboot. Couldn't get into a terminal to try and fix it. Ended up doing a wipe and complete new install. Another problem was Nvidia drivers, especially on the new 10xx cards. I'm learning as I go and just made my last post from what happened to me. Wish I had stuck with Linux and learned more from 4 years ago when I ran the Dotsch version on USB drives that installed Boinc by default.

Re: Windows 10

The only problem I've encountered recently (last 3 years) is due to EFI GRUB updates. Sporadically, it produces messages saying:

Unable to update variable XXXXXXX
Unable to update variable YYYYYYYY
Unable to update variable ZZZZZZZ
No problems found

Leaves the machine in an unbootable state. I have learned to keep a boot repair USB close at hand. The boot repair fixes it up and you continue on as though nothing has happened. Haven't had any issues related to the kernel in a very long time...

On Ubuntu BTW....
