Not many people have seen one of those beasts, let alone handled them.
If I lived in a single family home that was heated with electricity, I too would have gone for something similar. Then it would have made sense to buy a really cheap--but inefficient--blade server and run it only during winter, instead of electric radiators. The only problems to solve would have been the dimensions of the electric system in the house, the noise from the basement and efficient air circulation through the house. What efficiency do those PSUs have and is it possible to swap a few blades against L5640 blades and run them simultaneously with the ones you have now? If it is, you could upgrade whenever you find dirt cheap L5640 or X5650 blades on eBay. |

I have a number of blades to choose from that were part of this job lot but the majority are 2x L5320 and 2x E5450 blades with 8GB each.
----------------------------------------It might be possible to run a few at a time as there are some blanks and it should be possible to upgrade both the blades to G7 and psu's to Gold at least The absolute maximum design load seems to be 6750watts ![]() I think the initial tests will have to be at work due to the weight of the thing and the lack of a dedicated circuit here at home (as yet) ![]() |

The E5450 harpertowns should give a much better performance than the L5320 clovertowns, but will draw more juice. Maybe start with one blade at a time and see how much additional juice each successive blade takes. Good luck.
