Well, that was a good run for the Emerald but I'm not going to make it!

11,881 Vina batches were never submitted! I believe my prior calculation of exactly 11,881 Vina batches was accurate, so I'll stick with that number (rather than "11,000").How many batches per day does the FA@H crunching crew typically pulverize? ------ According to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/vi...amp;numRecordsPerPage=365 the high point looks like 5/28/15, when 796,402 results were returned (74 years, 171 days of computing time, earning 108,340 K points). ------ So now the question is: How many results does a single batch generate? "one AutoDock "batch" involves docking up to 1,000 compounds, while one AD Vina batch involves docking up to 10,000 compounds" http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/status ------ I therefore guesstimate 50 to 100 million results still to be returned, providing at least 60-90 days of crunching activity... Since these are Vina batches, and since Vina batches dock up to 10,000 compounds, the figure of 1,000 per batch seems low. Admittedly, the 10,000 is a maximum figure rather than an average, but in the absence of any evidence as to what the average is, 5,000 seems to be the most reasonable number to work with. Accepting the estimate of 400,000 results per day, here's the math: 11,881 * 5,000 = 59,405,000 total results 59,405,000 results / 400,000 results per day = 148 days = 4.95 months Crunching started on 7/24/15, and will apparently end around 9/26/15, for a total duration of 65 days, which means my original estimate of 60-90 days was right on target. Then I updated my estimate with the assumption of 5,000 compounds per Vina batch and 400,000 results per day, giving the new number of 4.95 months. The 400,000 figure proved to be too low - 514,158 were returned on 9/15/15 (that was the high point), and 475,000 would have been a better average number to use. Now we can solve for the last unknown, the actual number of compounds docked per batch: 11,881 x / 475,000 = 65 days; thus x = 2,600 compounds docked per batch (on the average) Now that we know that 2,600 is the average number of Vina compounds docked per batch, this can be used to improve the accuracy of any future Estimated Completion Dates. ![]() As for my personal situation, it looks like I will cross the 198-year mark by the time the WUs run out, leaving me 2 years short of the 200-year mark ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Papa3 at Sep 22, 2015 9:35:28 PM] |

... The FAAH project will continue. We are now in the process of transitioning a significant part of the computational effort to analyzing the mountains of results that have been generated from the generosity and interest of the FAAH community. Virtual screening of new and promising AIDS/HIV targets will also continue, but we, with the participation of Prof. Ron Levy at Temple University, will also be using the computational power of FAAH to examine the existing results to determine the most likely candidates for further experimental evaluation. This is a critical step in the drug development pipeline, since buying or synthesizing "false positive" compounds can be expensive in both time and money. The BEDAM computational procedure developed in the Levy Laboratory applies higher-level (and more computationally intensive) physics-based computations to the FAAH results to evaluate and remove such false positives. In addition, we are developing new data mining procedures that will look at all of the results from FAAH virtual screens to construct new filters that will also increase our rate of true positives before we send our candidates to our collaborators for synthesis and testing. A more detailed description of these efforts will be posted soon in our next progress report. ... This "next progress report", mentioned above on 7/16/15, has yet to arrive; the latest update to the FA@H project status page is dated December 9, 2014... and the last release of the FightAIDS@Home Newsletter (Volume 12) was dated November 18, 2013...Art Olson http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/status http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/index.html |

Is FAAH still running? If yes, how much work is left?

With There are currently about 4.5-5.0 days of Vina work remaining until we run dry again (some resends will still be sent after this). After this round of work units completes, the project will move to an intermittent status and additional work may be available in the future from researchers as needed. Seippel See this post above. |

So given that FAAH is running down, why don't some of you Senior Cruncher "100 year" and "Sapphire" people back down and let us little folk make some Gold and Emerald badges?

"EOP there won't be anyway as the BEDAM phase
is hot on the trail as successor. ... [Not expecting them to be ported to a mobile version though]" "... the project will move to an intermittent status and additional work may be available in the future from researchers as needed." Uhm, so, this means: - "additional work" includes the BEDAM phase, same badges? - BEDAM work units will not be available for Android? |

just adding FA@h on Android devices...no more OET for research!
----------------------------------------lets finish up this project... ![]() |

So given that FAAH is running down, why don't some of you Senior Cruncher "100 year" and "Sapphire" people back down and let us little folk make some Gold and Emerald badges? ![]() According to the WCG staff, it wouldn't matter. The feeder is going to make sure the same allocation of units get sent out. So, when they said 4 to 5 days left of WU's, even if heavy crunchers left, it would still be 4 to 5 days. Ever saw the message in the queue that there are no available work for the projects you have selected and then shortly thereafter you get new work? The feeder didn't have any work for you as it wasn't going to get more as it needed to get rid of work for other projects first to keep the allocation in check. So it appears that no matter what you do, it doesn't matter. |
