Re: FightAIDS@Home Estimated Completion Date ( June 4, 2015 ) ESTIMATE!!!

I give up. Looks like I'm the only one here who cares more about getting the job done than about who does it, and how many badges each person gets.

For the record: I am a citizen of the United States, and big fan of the First Amendment. I was just wishing that everybody would keep their badge talk to the Badge Recognition topic (which I indeed never look at it, because I do not like it), because I believe that that is the appropriate space to discuss such things, whereas this topic is supposed to be for ECDs and other status updates on the project itself.

Perhaps this is because most of my online forum experience has been with a place where the moderators are much stricter about keeping every discussion in the right spot, and not allowing people to stray too far off the original topic.

Now to keep crunching away at the last remnants of FAAH and MCM - as a college student living on a tight budget, I regret that I have but one computer to give for this cause.

Don't take it personally. There are many types of people who crunch and to many the badges are important. I too agree that badges (and specially the points) are not important as the progress in returning the crunched work units. But the badges give you a goal to work towards and recognizes your effort. And it's fun also tongue.

You're not the only one... I always say do the best with what you have. It doesn't matter if you return one WU per day or 100: the important part is that you are participating actively by donating to a altruistic cause.

The ECD has already been given, so don't expect any further updates on that front. Also, if the ECD should not contain talk of badges, then why should it contain "other status updates on the project itself" talk as well? Surely that would be off topic from ECD that this thread was created for. Off topic is exactly that, off topic.

The Badge Recognition would be for people who received a badge, not necessarily a general discussion about badges. Why make that one off topic as well if others shouldn't be made off topic?

Re: FightAIDS@Home Estimated Completion Date ( June 4, 2015 ) ESTIMATE!!!

Alright, I guess some people do like the badges, and some even increase their processing power just to get badges, like Eric Kaiser. Seems like badges do have their use.

But what I still don't like is how some people have been asking others to quit this project or that one "so that other people can get their badges". I hate that and I will NEVER do such a thing, because I only care about completing these projects to help make the world a better place, and I would crunch for WCG even if there were no badges at all. Fame is nothing, science is everything.

I just wish badge-lovers would stick to the Badge Recognition threads and leave the rest of the forum out of this. When I click on a topic called "Estimated Completion Date", I expect to see status reports and updates on the project, not a bunch of boasting about "I only have 10 days till I get my diamond badge!!!".

1 more thing...u can hate, but it's path to d Dark side!

I love that...that each & every1 can choose 4 themselves...choose which project to participate...choose when to say good bye to project...& when to crunch forward...

there's plenty more of science to crunch...OET hasn't come to 1/2!
& I love my badges...& giving other opportunity to get theirs...
maybe u haven't heard about it...maybe u r a only (lonely) child...but it's called "sharing"!

Last batch # is 908573; now crunching 907453; about 1,120 batches to go...

... & then the wait for the "computationally intensive" FA@H BEDAM work units begins!!!

KLiK, please tone it down a bit... just because somebody doesn't think the same way you do, doesn't give you the right to make those kind of remarks/assumptions. Many different people with many different types of thoughts crunch here. We can express our ideas and opinions, but doing with respect to the other crunchers.

Well CJSL, you would like to say that I have to take the offences from Hanibal94 (yes, I am one of those unhuman crunchers liking badges and other golden-calves-of-recognition), but can not replay in the similar way?

(S)He can thinks whatever (s)he wants, but only if (s)he keeps myself from his/her equation. Otherwise, (s)he is just a moron and/or a troll (yes, I am an egoist).

And since I would like to stay civil in this thread/forum/wcg, I would not post my favourite alien-emoticon

Cheers raised eyebrow

Re: FightAIDS@Home Estimated Completion Date ( June 4, 2015 ) ESTIMATE!!!

Alright look, I'm sorry I was so blunt at first.
I never wanted to upset anyone - I just got sick of seeing all these people boasting about how long they have to get this badge or that one. It seemed really arrogant and selfish to me, but from what rr967 and others have said, I guess badges do have a good side to them after all.

I will still contribute to WCG projects, and I will always stick with the ones I like until they are 100% done, even if I can't get any more badges. My belief is that completing these projects is THE number one priority, so I'm focused on that.

And for the record, I am not an only child, I know what sharing means, and my underwear is fine. Please stop with these petty insults and assumptions - I know it's wrong to act like that because I once got into trouble for doing it myself (on a different online forum).

Others, it seems, should buy larger size underwear.
