According to the Research page we have reached halfway through the project tech, admin, scientist: we'd need an update - what is the LAST BATCH of the project?! seems like sthg has changed...so please respond... Thank you, ErikaT Erika, I just love when we ask 1 thing, for example about apple...& you guys from WCG answer about strawberry, as it's also is a fruit! Apologies for the incorrect response. I misread your question, I did not give you a misleading answer on purpose. I will ask the techs to check on what you are inquiring about. Also, I have been working on getting a project update from the UGM team for the last couple of months. Thanks, ErikaT [Edit 1 times, last edit by ErikaT at Jan 11, 2016 12:24:11 PM] |

Latest batch is 21651. Last batch is 28679. We are 75% complete. We are processing approx. 1K batches per month. At this rate, we have 7-8 months of new work left.
----------------------------------------UGM Crunching Chart https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,37468 Seippel's post re: last batch number --> 28679 https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ad,38390_offset,60#505140 Seippel's post re: progress bar calculation --> progress bar will correct itself over time as units are processed. We were 66% complete as of 10/21. We are 75% complete as of 1/11. We are processing 3% per month. 25/3 = 8 months of new work left. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ad,38390_offset,60#505735 Add more cores if you can't reach your 10 year badge in 8 months with your current machines. Plain and simple. No need to pester the WCG staff with this. I'm sure they have more important items on their plate. Like the next project launch. thank you very much...some of us are interested what made a shift from 75+% to 50%...looking forward for the answer... The final batch for the project is still 28679. I did some digging and found a bug in the script which updates the progress complete on the webpage. That bug was preventing this project (and others) from getting updates to their percentage complete. That bug has been fixed and they should be updated regularly again. Also, keep in mind the estimate on the webpage is based on the estimated completion date of the project (currently September for UGM1) and the percentage of time that has passed since the launch of the project to the end date. In some cases that may be different than dividing the current batch being sent by the total batches. Seippel |

Seippel OK...I think I get it now: 1. we have slower MCM WUs, so that's a slow-down! 2. we have a larger weight of FAHB project...so that is a slow-down of UGM also... 3. UGM batches are based on organism DNA, but different organisms have different DNA (in length & number of chromosomes)...so we're expected to run slower batches (or longer batches or batches with more slices) in future! 4. & thanks for a heads up for UGM2...seems like that's also in plan!? & thanks for ECD of Sep 2016! I see the OET progress has now fallen from ~75% to 56%. Is that correct ? the answer will probably be here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,37594_offset,80 ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KLiK at Jan 13, 2016 7:38:37 AM] |

I'm going to stick with the 75.7% based on sent batches divided by total batches. That's a straight forward, repeatable number. All that "hooey" about estimated completion date and the amount of time that passed since launch is just that, "hooey". It's WCG's way of saying something that isn't so specific that you can hold them accountable for saying it. Based on their methodology, and of course that is sketchy so you can't hold them accountable for any specific methodology, the percentage would change even if we never completed any batches because it's based on time not on actual work getting done. How accurate is an estimate based on an estimate? I don't understand why they want to make things so hard....

+1
----------------------------------------I don't understand why the % completed uses time/performance estimations rather than a simple actual_batch / final_batch * 100 equation. It should reflect how much of the project is actually done, not how much it will take to some estimated end date. Sure, you also want to estimate when it might finish (date shown above the bar), which is a bit of guessing. But I think the bar should actually show a simple batch percentage done. |
