Re: UGM1 Progress of the project

MCM moves back to 83% now, so no worries on that area. I'll help focus UGM now. See if I can get a lot of UGM jobs, because I knew some crunchers already moves away because of the nearing end date so less chance to get a badge. A few weeks ago UGM end date was supposed 15 day-ish from now (two day after MCM original end date).

Crunch crunch crunch.

That sucks for me since I focused on MCM first for a 10-year badge since it was "closer" to EoKW and having finished that I now may be 2 weeks short of time to do the same for UGM. My only hope is...

Hey everyone, MCM needs your help to finish ahead of UGM!! angel

Cheers coffee

:-)

But I don't think that is possible looking at computing power spent at MCM compared to UGM and still MCM _may_ complete in April 2017 (best guess).

If no more job for UGM, it will finish first.

Re: UGM1 Progress of the project

Hi everyone,
To clarify where a few projects stand:

  • MCM: we just updated the estimates based on the latest information from the researchers about remaining work.
  • UGM: is indeed ending. We expect the last remaining work units to go out towards the end of October.
  • CEP: Harvard is switching to a new type of work units, which we've been testing and will resume the project at normal speed once testing is complete.
  • HSTB: the limitations around work unit supply and speed are intentional to meet the researchers' needs. i.e. not indicative of the amount of work for the project.

And rest assured, our pipeline is never empty so we're working on adding more projects smile

Those progress bars are at once a source of information and entertainment.

I agree that the progress bars have, at times, caused more confusion than been a source of useful information. We are in fact rethinking the concept.

Hope this helps!

Re: UGM1 Progress of the project

Thanks Juan for the update!
We were the ones that asked for those bars (progress status) and we've been told how they work and what caveats are there. So we (most of us) understand that. But sad is that sometimes we're left in dark. Something odd happens to a project status, we ask for clarification and we get no response for long time (days, sometimes weeks). This happened several times, now we'd be happy to know more about the MCM work addition.

Thank you for the info. What about OET (ebola)? Its the next in list to complete at 0.5 years.

As for progress bar, it was fine. However, some improvement ideas:

- always nice to put a disclaimer on the page (bottom) that more work unit could be added to research.

- wu completed / wu count can be added at this page. i wonder why it was not included in the statistic. only result returned daily. i think users understand the percentage change when one day they visit it says 90,000/100,000 and the next day 90,100/150,000. also sekerob graphic has daily percentage increase (mcm is around 0.09% daily). so its nice to add that too. but also remember to add in the disclaimer that it was calculated based on the past 7 days or something. so users also know it fluctuate based on WU count and users moving from science to another science.

again, thanks for the info. crunching ugm now

2 Bars you have, the short on the Research Overview page, and the long on the Project XYZ Overview pages. Latter as a time line, with emphasis, and no percent: Excellent, but it could use a kick-off project launch item on all of them, HSTb has, Zika hasn't e.g. as well as when large blobs of experiments get added such as just now with MCM1, put them on the bar as distinct items [no obligatory forum reading]. An estimated project duration could be put in the introduction text, where not already done. Otherwise not publishing an active end date when estimated to be further out than 6 months is fine... leave that to the fiercely competing cottage industry.

OET by my ECD is going to finish up in May 2017, same as MCM...check here:

Re: UGM1 Progress of the project

Thanks everyone for your feedback and suggestions.

To answer a couple of questions.. for MCM, we believe there'll be more work that what we currently have. But for OET, we're not sure yet. We meet with each research team monthly and work unit availability is always on the agenda, but they don't always know yet whether they'll need to run more work, hence the lack of clarity on projected end dates for many of our projects.
