Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

MCM got into competition from 04.06. to 30.06., so we might have some speed up for ECD...more info here:

wink

I thought I read somewhere that MCM sends out a fixed number of batches a day. In which case we'd just speed through those batches faster, and move on with other projects. Either way, more crunching = more progress. Good for all!

If that's true, then we either hit 100% of maximum amount & get shortage of MCM...or WCG is at almost 100% of MCM sends (as MCM uses about 50% of WCG) & we do get shortage on MCM WUs!

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 11, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

Since I have recently learned the following information from WCG there is no calculable end date. However I will still attempt to track the progress as it occurs. A big thanks to the WCG staff for making this available. I have decided to leave the original quote in for the time being as it still addresses the question of additional work. In the recent past an additional estimate of 4000 more batches were added.
Recently another estimated 5,000 batches were added to the project. We are not able to say the exact number of additional batches that will be added in the future, but we are fully expecting to receive more work units for the Mapping Cancer Markers project. The researchers will turn to other cancer-type work units when the current ones near completion.
Last 30 day average results:518,972
Percentage Complete:Currently listed on the Research page:93%.
The average length of a WU is currently running about 4.15 hours, slightly longer than the last time I posted, but continuing to trend steady at just less than the 4.20 hour mark consistently. The average length of a work unit this past week varied between 4.05 and 4.19 hours. This continues to be remarkably steady.
Still have not seen any of the batches from 122278 to 122402. The ovarian units started with 122403 as the lowest number. My latest batch number was 133609 which would give about 192 batches for the week. The batch count for last week was 169.
Production increased this past week going from about 3.38million WU's to 3.7 million WU's completed. During this past week the time devoted to MCM1 was just slightly over an average of 251 years per day, up somewhat from the past week's 228.
Originally we had 17,500 batches plus 9000 more batches, plus 5000 more batches (all approximate) for a total of 31,500 batches. Now we have an estimated 4000 more batches for a total of 35,500 batches. At 10,000 work units per batch, this would be 355,000,000 work units (double redundancy), so total of 710,000,000 work units. As of today(June 11 we have processed 671,440,987. This would be about 94.5% of the known batches.
Based on the 30 day running average the current work units should last to about August 24, 2017. This not an end of project projection, just a projection of a probable end of the currently known work units.

Cheers

In the interest of trying not to spread fake news, here's the quote from the forum I was thinking of: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...d,36119_offset,760#537183

Thanks for the update, as always, Sgt. Joe!

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

It's showing our progress at 55% now.
So from the project's start in November 2013, we've done half.

Really hoping this project pays off, cuz this project has taken the lion's share of the work. 340,112 hours would easily wrap up all other projects WCG has had in the interim.

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

Just ran the numbers in Excel. Mapping Cancer Markers is already a larger project than all other completed projects combined except Human Proteome Folding Phase 2 and Help Conquer Cancer, and Help Fight Childhood Cancer.

I lost my mother and grandmother to cancer.
That said, are putting all our eggs in one basket?
I understand correctly, this project has only published preliminary data.

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

I think this project can run pretty much for as long as we live.... There are just so many different type of cancers that needs to be researched. The project itself already said it is opened to other type of cancer research if enough samples are collected. I would think by the time a year or two from now, there will be more samples to be analyzed.

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

As far as I recall, at the beginning of this project there was some talk about a possible GPU version. But 3.5 years later nothing happened. If there's such a possibility, this would make sense due to the large amount of work.

Re: MCM Progress Reports - June 4, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

It would also be nice to see some kind of update from the admins saying something like "hey we just received word that we will be receiving more work" or anything.

Cancer is my main objective on this site, so I visit the MCM forums frequently and always appreciate @Sgt Joes updates. It's hard for him to do updates though with so little information from the staff.
