Re: MCM Progress Reports - January 15, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

I am going to do a little black box tinkering and go out on a limb with some speculation. If the present rate of crunching continues, I predict the current batches of work units should end about March 25, 2017. However, bear in mind, there may be a new project starting in the near future (based on the latest beta) which would siphon off some unknown amount of crunching power. If the scientists think they need more crunching done, they may continue to add additional batches of work units, thus extending this project. If I can think of anything else relevant to track, I will try. Any suggestions welcome.

I too am interested to hear from the scientists about if they are going to be adding more wus. I don't understand the secrecy and waiting till the last minute, but who knows. Maybe they are still as of now undecided if they will add more.

Also, I am wondering if this new yet to be released project will be tossed into the wild soon, and if so, will it be on normal feeder status, or trickle as have been some of the recent releases. I currently have a mix of MCM, FAH1, and OET selected, and I can say that probably 90% of the wus I pick up are MCM. OET comes in second, with a few FAH jobs every once in a while.

I will speculate just a little bit on the potential new project. Since they put out 2 betas of 100,000 work units each, I am guessing the new project will have plenty of work units, since I believe most betas were much smaller. The only glitch I saw in the forum was with the android application. This could potentially be a huge project.
Cheers

Long time ago, they talked all the areas of which cancer markers interest them and we will see work . We didnt see all of them yet. So there will be more work :)

No kidding. They are about to cross 295,000 years in total runtime making it the 2nd or 3rd largest project in WCG. As you mentioned they had 100k+ betas and they are trying to expand it to run on android; at this rate they could well double the 300k runtime before the project truly finishes. And plenty of people will be more than happy to help :)

By "huge project", he was referring to the upcoming project currently in BETA, not MCM.

Re: MCM Progress Reports - January 22, 2017 23:59 UTC Update

Since I have recently learned the following information from WCG there is no calculable end date. However I will still attempt to track the progress as it occurs. A big thanks to the WCG staff for making this available.
Recently another estimated 5,000 batches were added to the project. We are not able to say the exact number of additional batches that will be added in the future, but we are fully expecting to receive more work units for the Mapping Cancer Markers project. The researchers will turn to other cancer-type work units when the current ones near completion.
Last 30 day average results:646,451
Percentage Complete:Currently listed on the Research page:95%
The average length of a WU is currently running about 4.21 hours, slightly longer than last week, but still trending steady around the 4.25 hour mark. The average length of a work unit this past week varied between 4.17 and 4.23 hours. This continues to be remarkably steady, even steadier than last week.
Still have not seen any of the batches from 122278 to 122402. The ovarian units started with 122403 as the lowest number. My latest batch number was 129773 which would give about 229 batches for the week.
Production increased a bit this past week going from about 4.47 million WU's to 4.61 million WU's completed. During this past week the time devoted to MCM1 was just over an average of 315 years per day, compared to 308 years per day the previous week.
Cheers

I am guessing this has to do with start of another new project SCC1 (Smash Childhood Cancer). Crunch on.

I have some doubts on that. The new project runs 19 days now and the progress bar is on 5% complete.
