Well, the betas are over and the new Mapping Cancer Markers project has started! Reading about the research and project, I think this could be an exciting one. From my understanding, it was this type of research that led in time to the breakthroughs in breast and prostate cancer. Imagine the difference this could make in areas like lung and pancreatic cancer! Man, this makes me wish I could build me a server farm.....sigh.....
----------------------------------------It looks like it is going to be a quorum of two project for a while at least. In time, they may change it to quorum of one but that will probably be a while. That, along with the usual behavior at the start of a new project likely means that we'll see a bump in Pending Validations for a bit. The weather's getting cooling up here in the Northern hemisphere so let's get those crunchers heating up the homestead! ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Nov 9, 2013 4:38:18 AM] |

Mapping Cancer Markers
---------------------------------------- My guns are pointed there (at least when the other WUs work their way through the queues). But since I keep my queues small (.25 or .5 days), this will happen quickly. Ye Ha! Only thing that would be better would be if there were a GPU version also available. ![]() |

With MCM1, keep in mind that completion times can vary from WU to WU more that has been typical with past projects. There is an initialization that happens with each WU that shows as the WU sitting at 0.5%. You'll also see this on resuming a suspended WU and then the last checkpoint will get loaded and the percent complete will go back up. WUs should typically checkpoint about every 10 minutes although that can also vary for certain WUs.

So, I've seen run times from under four hours to over twelve on the MCM1 WUs. Yes, that's some variability but I can live with that. I guess if you run with a super huge queue, like 8-9 days, you could run the risk of having WUs going No Reply. Maybe there's something where having the amount of work in your queue end up matching the actual run times matters but I'm drawing a blank. I'm liking the new project!

Back when my service was unreliable and we had much more unreliable servers...(Prior to IBM involvement and a while after IBM got started) there was much more reason to have the big queues. I don't think there has been one time in the past few years that services outages having an effect on WU production have been any fault other than my own. Edit:>WCG outages were predicted and so we could accommodate.
----------------------------------------I raised my queues up to 1 day due to some spotty availability of MCM work units yesterday but see no reasons for anything larger than that unless one has unreliable internet service. Even then a queue greater than your longest outage over the past couple of years seems unnecessary. Still I suppose it causes no real harm. On an I7 2600, I am seeing run times as long as 4 hours and 9 minutes and as short as 1 hour and 38 minutes. This is while running 8 at a time. I have an I7 3770K that I need to check but my wife is on it at the moment and I don't need to be yelled at just yet this morning. Edit>I got a new silver badge last night Everyone Keep Crunching and Thank You for supporting WCG as well as MOT. ![]() Edit2> Just saw a MCM WU that ran 6 hours 18 minutes on an I7 3770K (one of 8 simultaneous WUs) ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by RT at Nov 10, 2013 3:43:53 PM] |
