It's a good weekend for crunching. My electricity price has been below 5p per unit since 21:30 yesterday. That's less than 1p/hour with 24 threads running on my Ryzen 9. Even better, between 10:30 and 16:00 today the price is negative, so for that period I'll have 40 threads running. My tariff is based on supply versus demand, and there certainly seems to have been noticeably lower demand at weekends since the lockdown, and today it's nice and windy

Oh dear I'm sounding my age! Congrats to Banham and Apis on their 20 and 10 year diamonds.

Hope everyone is doing their best to stay healthy, we'll do the best we can but both my wife and I are Key Workers... Stay healthy TMC, carers and key-workers are keeping the country going right now and you have all the countries respect I'm sure! We'll all never be quite the same after this, I hope good lessons are learned. I'm slightly less than 5 years away from my 1st 100 Year Badge That's awesome and I hope the units keep flowing. Exciting new project, am so glad this is happening, I tried the F@H one but it didn't seem to work very well. Coming Soon: You and your computer can soon help stop COVID-19 in its tracks. https://www.ibm.org/OpenPandemics I guess this will just appear as a new project but I signed up anyway in case there was any more info.
cheers,

A quick update on my electricity... yesterday between 10:30am and 4pm I used £1.54 of electricity (or rather, I would have if I'd been on a regular tariff), but instead I got paid 14p, and crunched a lot of units.
----------------------------------------To echo Andy, congratulations on the big badges, and yeah, looking forward to OpenPandemics. Let's hope the units are easier to come by than HSTB and ARP ![]()

In other news, I'm slightly less than 5 years away from my 1st 100 Year Badge ![]() Yes, I hope you and your wife stay virus-free TMC . I'm happily hunkered down, but I have a lot of respect for people who are exposing themselves to increased risk so I don't have to. Much appreciated. Regarding your upcoming 100-year badge, it must be long-awaited. I'm now approaching 36 years on MCM, and 50 seems a long way away.

I may be 55 but my inner kid is good and strong. I watched a GT Sim Race with some of my favourite racing drivers taking part, and it looked amazing fun.
----------------------------------------So, I splashed out on a Logitech G29 force feedback steering wheel, pedals and gear changer £199.99 at Argos, Gear changer was free after adding it. Bought Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition from Steam, currently 50% off, and hit the track. After 2 days of crashing, and causing general mayhem. I settled down, stopped crashing Lamborghinis. Ferraris, and other top end cars at every corner, hopped into an Abarth 500 and started to figure out the subtleties of sim racing. I have to say my lap times started to drop at an amazing rate and I'm now pushing the wee Abarth to its limits, and learning a couple of my favourite tracks. Why not! Got loads of free time! Here is a link to my first serious attempt at learning, and you can see me get better and faster. I'm much faster and consistent since making that. I reckon in about 3 months I will be within the 107% rule every lap, and will try an online race. https://youtu.be/mmbOgGy29pI ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Apr 8, 2020 9:14:46 AM] |

Wow graphics have rally moved on, my last race was on PS2, I think it was Gran Turismo 3 which I thought amazing at the time. Did you need a super GPU for this?
----------------------------------------I've got a force feedback steering wheel in the attic somewhere - from the last milenia, I think it pre-dates USB though, I feel inspired to get it down and see if it works now. I have to say even the sound was impressive.

I've an Nvidia 1050i, not a powerhouse by any means. That said, I'm getting 132FPS at 1920x1080, AA 2x, nice and smooth as well.
----------------------------------------The graphics have certainly improved since my last foray into car racing back in 1998. Everything is as realistic as can be, I do feel like I am driving a car, even to the point of feeling when tyres start wearing out, and feeling subtle changes in setup. It's amazing all the things you can change on certain cars while driving. The physics is spot on. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Apr 8, 2020 6:26:27 PM] |
