Re: Hi All!

Do the rates fluctuate much?

Massively. Today, for example, the unit cost (inc. VAT) in the middle of the night is as low as 4.4 pence, whereas peak time it's hitting 25 pence. It all depends on grid input (including the projected wind/solar contribution) vs projected demand. The really amazing thing though is that on average several times a year it drops to below zero - they pay you to use electricity!!! There is a cap so the most you'll pay is 35p/unit. It's ideal for electric car owners (although they have a dedicated tarriff for that too), or for people who can adjust their consumption to off peak, in whatever way.

Apparently there's an Alexa skill too... "Alexa, ask Octopus: when is electricity cheapest today?”, and IFTTT integration.

Full details here:
https://octopus.energy/agile/

If you're interested in signing up (or to any of their tarriffs), let me know... there's a £50 each kickback.

Re: Hi All!

And you both, Thargor and DMNI, have a new "Rod Peel Pink" signature border biggrin
It looks like I might need a new border for "1 billion team points" soon.

Ian_UK congrats on the Diamond 5 Zika.

Guess you mean a billion, I think reduk's got over a year to go unless he scales up a bit more.

Re. Octopus, I bumped into one of those 'Money Expert' energy salespeople in town the other day, interestingly Octopus came out best from the offers he had (only half a dozen suppliers), he was a little frustrated at not making a sale as I knew my numbers inside out and his 'energy calculator' didn't have a model for WCG crunchers tongue but on top they had zero USP, you can purchase the same rates direct from Octopus and on top of that a fellow cruncher would get £50 rather than an anonymous company. So I'll continue watching the energy space for now.

On the hardware front still no sign of the AMD 3950X for sale, my Xeon v4 24 cores+ mobo didn't sell on Ebay, just getting offers of £200 and I'm still feeling sore from auctioning a 32gb ddr4 28thread complete machine for £180 a few weeks earlier so I'll keep the 48threads running over winter. Never enjoyed selling on Ebay, it always consumes so much time. rolling eyes

Re: Hi All!

@dcrobinson, I've just switched to Octopus Agile smile
Fortunately I have a 10kw LGChem Resu storage battery coupled to my 7.2kw pvs which covers the 25p+ 3 hour period and I use rules in my SolarEdge inverter to make sure the battery is fully charged either by solar or from the grid by 4pm.

@mac1 curious to know how you're achieving so many points from your runtime?

To say that I'm jealous @reduk is an understatement!!!
That must mean any electricity you need from the grid is almost free, and you must be raking it in, albeit with huge startup costs. If only I had a suitable roof...
