Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

I may be slightly biased Mufflin but I think it is the team to join. wink
If you need any help installing or setting up the client to crunch your chosen project(s) then drop a post here and we will do our best to help you out.
Alternatively, if you just want to have a natter then natter away!
So, welcome to the team smile

Congratulations RTS on your 100years RT for the team, although please do take care with the celebrations wink

Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

I think I'm all fine, I'm crunching through AIDS at a rate of 1 per thread per minute and a half for most work but there's some that seem to be harder and are taking longer.

I was originally doing cancer but they take 2.5 hours so it's much less satisfying and everyone is doing cancer so I thought it would be better to help the less popular ones.

Good evening all. Welcome to the Team UK forum Muffin - good to have you on board. If you trawl your way back through the posts you will see that we don't always talk about WCG and crunching so anything goes. Come to me for advice on Tropical Gardening and comiseration for the UK climate.

Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

I've just noticed that I'm now in the UK top 100 (well, number 100) for points. Once more, I shall celebrate, quietly. Congratulations on 100 years of crunching Rod.

And congratulations to you too Dave - have a beer!

Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

Morning all,

Hi Mufflin, welcome on board smile

I was originally doing cancer but they take 2.5 hours so it's much less satisfying and everyone is doing cancer so I thought it would be better to help the less popular ones.

Yes MCM and FAH2 have large work units, FAH seems to have a mixed bag but tend to be small/medium and it's quite generous for points on average. You can compare the run-time vs projects on Dave's stats page under 'Projects' then 'projects productivity in the last week'.

There's a wealth of other related info there too.

Happy crunching. biggrin

Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

My remote server did one job and now it's just sitting there not doing anything and I don't really understand why since it's not telling me that there's any problems

Welcome to the team Mufflin. Someone has already pointed out my Stats page ... you need to be a team member for at least a week to view some of your own stats (in the compare/predict) sections, and it should generate you a signature graphic (like mine) which you can use if you want.

Re: WCG Team UK Stats site - Target Predictions page

Good Morning All. A bit wey and windy here today - temperature is 21 C (8am) rising to 31 C later.

My remote server did one job and now it's just sitting there not doing anything and I don't really understand why since it's not telling me that there's any problems

Muffin - without seeing how you have set up your preferences and internet connection on your remote server, I cannot suggest a way forward. I run Macs exclusively but the principals should be the same. The Boinc manager needs several parameters to ensure that it works correctly. Firstly ensure that you are requesting a reasonable amount of work and that your computing preferences are set to a high value (mine are always 100%). You can leave the network section blank. Disk and memory should be set to what you are comfortable with and check the 'keep non GPU tasks in memory while suspended'. Scheduling can be left blank for 24 /7 crunching. Have a look at the 'Event Log' found under the 'Tools' tab - it may give you a clue.

Is anyone else running a virtual machine who could give Muffin some tips?

Mufflin... have you got the box ticked on the WCG website that says "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." ?
Also, have a look in the Event Log (on the Tools menu in the BOINC/WCG client). That will usually say if there is no work available, and why.
