Morning all,
----------------------------------------I think that there must be an upper limit to what can be buffered. It seems to be between 250 and 300 WUs per machine or around 2 days worth of work up to 10 days in the future. Just had a squizz (where did that word come from?) at the cloud migration thread on this and learned a couple of useful things. WCG have a limit of 35 WU's per core so your 8 core machines would pick up 280 each in theory - fitting nicely with your evidence. A few days before the migration they will up it to 70 per core. Of course each project has different size WU's so it might be worth loading some bigger WU's from other projects e.g. MCM. FAHV2 has giant ones but they need to trickle the results back to the WCG servers in a certain order to be valid - during this migration I guess that creates some risk. One of my machines 'fell off' the internet the other day and 30 run-time days of FAHV2 crunching was flagged invalid or partial at best. Also they mentioned there is a hard limit in BOINC of 1000 WU's per machine so if you've got a big one like Richard LOL you can hit that limit before the WCG one and their raising of the limit to 70 won't provide any benefit, I suppose it could be virtualised ...
cheers,

Thanks mac1 That's what I expected. Provided WUs are available, I should end up with around 1400 which should see me through nicely. Of course the timing of the release of extra WUs is critical as I imagine that I am not the only person in this state of affairs. If they wait until a couple of days before the deadline I think that there will be a mad rush to collect as much work as possible and some people will loose out - ah well, let's wait and see. Breaking news - While typing the above I have just picked up 5 SCC WUs shoehorned in with a deadline of 10 May which is the deadline being crunched currently. This is the first time I have seen this so maybe they are starting to up the WUs per core. However I don't see how that helps if those WUs have to be completed before the Cloud migration. Further news - nope wrong again - I still have 699 WUs in progress. SCC must have run out of WUs beyond 12 May.

Just for you, Apis, I have extended my "Top Tens" (which were already Top Twenties) to Top Twenty Fives. I've also allowed you to type commas into the target predictor. You do have to put whole numbers in though. I couldn't think of any reasons why you'd want to do half a year, and it was more hassle that it was worth. I've changed the links to my contact page from "https" to "http". Dunno whether that will solve your problem Apis. It's the same website ![]() Top man! Thank-you so much for the changes. I'm afraid that the contact form still doesn't work for me, even insecurely, though I have to point out that I would have changed it to secure before sending my e-mail address anyway... |

Good Morning All.
----------------------------------------Significant milestone this morning - 100 years for Team UK. I think I'll have a celebratory coffee and finish cutting my grass when the sun comes up.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll change the contact link back to https since it didn't make any difference, or just stick my email address on there.

I've just noticed that I'm now in the UK top 100 (well, number 100) for points. Once more, I shall celebrate, quietly. Congratulations on 100 years of crunching Rod.
