Re: Good morning team

Good Morning All, a fine day in prospect here in Santa Cruz. All is well with the world, my irrigation system has had a makeover and is working better than ever. My herb garden is coming along a treat (Basil, Thyme, Mint, Rosemary and Chillies), trying to grow Fennel now!
Despite an unannounced fumigation of the Condominium, my small family of 'abeja señoritas' (lady bees) survived so plant fertilisation continues. It will soon be time to plant my sunflowers and to turf the borders of my home - ah the work never ends.
domonijo I like the idea of a desert island disc best 10 albums. I will give it some thought and post my selection later - anyone else want to contribute?

I think that's a great idea... especially if those with streaming music accounts (Spotify, Google Music etc) undertake to listen to everybody else's top tens.

Re: Good morning team

Evening team, it seems I've missed a few posts while relaxing away from work all of this week - just had a nice walk up the road to vote, and am now relaxing with my feet up with a nice chilled glass of wine - I could get used to this! smile

Cars - when I was a little younger, I loved the look of Aston Martins (specifically the V12 Vantage). As I've grown a little older, and possibly a little wiser (just a little), I'm now driving something a little more sensible - a 13-plate Vauxhall Astra VXR. It drinks petrol a little bit, and it's anything but subtle, but it's nice and comfortable and definitely fun to drive (without having to take out a second mortgage to afford an Aston).

Music - even from my Uni days, I liked quite the mixed bunch, although I'd have to admit heavy metal doesn't feature that highly in my preferences (although it's still considerably above 99% of songs made in the 80's, my pet-hate). Nowadays, I tend to listen more to audiobooks than music, as the 30-40 minute journey to/from work is just long enough to get a chapter or two in.

Dave, great photos - I'm at Center Parcs, next week, and hoping to get some good use out of the camera (especially the new lens).

Re: Good morning team

As I have nothing but time, I have given this great thought, it was very difficult to cut it down to 10, started out listing my favourite albums which got to over 50, then slowly whittled it down to albums I could not live without.
Lots of great albums had to fall by the wayside.

Darkmatter.ni's Desert Island Disc - Best 10 Albums (in no particular order)

AC/DC - Back in Black
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Styx - Paradise Theater
Billy Squier - Don't Say No
Black Sabbeth - Paranoid
Boston - Boston
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
Led Zeppelin - IV
Levellers - Levelling The Land
The Cars - Complete Greatest Hits

I would bet that none of you have heard of Billy Squire, his album is immense.
A bit of a cheat including a compilation album for the Cars but the truth is they only had a couple of great songs on each of their albums, Which I really do enjoy, so I feel justified including it. Besides, its the only Cars album I own today.

Re: Good morning team

Got my HTC 10 yesterday, It is gorgeous.
Very fast and responsive, no lag at all.
The sound system is incredibly good.
The finger print scanner is amazingly fast.
The camera is superb (first time ever on an HTC phone)
Very little bundled bloat-ware.
Not found any faults as yet.

Re: Good morning team

Top Ten Albums... very difficult for me, bordering on the impossible, and highly dependent on mood I suspect. However, I've had a go... and included a top ten singles list as well. I've restricted the album list to one live and one compilation (although the live album is a triple album, which is sort of cheating-ish).

Dave's Top Ten Albums

Dire Straights - Love Over Gold
Electric Light Orchestra - Out of the Blue
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Midnight Oil - Diesel & Dust
Mumford & Sons - Wilder Mind
New Order - Music Complete
Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree: 16 Golden Greats
Runrig - Party On The Moor (The 40th Anniversary Concert)
Santana - Supernatural

Dave's Top Ten Tracks

Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
Muse - Uprising
Mumford & Sons - Tomkins Square Park
Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush - Don't Give Up
The Pogues - Sally MacLennane
Pulp - Sunrise
Runrig - Big Sky
Santana - Put Your Lights On
Sting - Desert Rose
Supertramp - School

So many fantastic artists, songs and albums have to be omitted - I have no Frank Turner, Fish, Deacon Blue, no instrumental electronica (what about Jean-Michel Jarre, Afro-Celt Sound System, Peatbog Faeries?). I regularly listen to heavier stuff, but would I take it to a desert island? I listen to classical music too (Mozart's Mass in C Minor being my favourite work), and I have to confess to liking Roger Whittaker, and dare I say it, Coldplay!

Re: Good morning team

Good afternoon Ladles and Jellyspoons,

Long time since my last visit and so much has happened. So, quickly, a warm welcome to our new members, congrats on the milestones, hope everybody is in good spirits and those with aches/pains/illness are on the mend soon.

Still waiting to move, it does seem to dragging a bit but the end is just about in sight as it is now at the arguing about what date to exchange/complete on. It's been driving me a bit scatty at times!

So still lodging with family which means a lessened output. Creeping towards 8yrs on MCM but would really like to make it to 10, that attempt though is going to have to wait until I'm paying the leccy bill again and can get the i7 crunching again.

My musical tastes are generally more along the rock end of things but also other types of music are in the collection, depends on the mood. Over lunch I've had a quick think and my top 10 albums, which could change at any moment, are probably as follows (in no particular order other than heavier to the more mellow)

Back in Black - AC/DC
Metallica (The Black Album) - Metallica
Runnin' Wild - Airbourne
After The War - Gary Moore
Still Got The Blues - Gary Moore
Revenge - Eurythmics
Savage - Eurythmics
Love Tattoo - Imelda May
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Rodrigo y Gabriela
11:11 - Rodrigo y Gabriela

All the best and keep on crunching.
GH

Re: Good morning team

Got my first Diamond badge this morning, made it by 1 hour.

Some intriguing choices coming in the Desert Island disc selections.
Anyone else going to put up their favourites?
