Re: Good morning team

Morning all, and a special good morning to Bradley who is going to achieve his first year of crunching for the team today (although obviously he isn't going to read this until well into the afternoon at the earliest).
Rod... just get anything with a Core i7 desktop processor. I find that laptops, even good ones, soon spin up the fans when under load, so you're definitely better with a desktop machine, which doesn't leave you much choice in the Mac world, sadly (given that Mac Minis are just laptops without a screen, and have a laptop processor).

Thank you very much dcrobinson. More like a day later. I was pretty drunk all day yesterday as I handed in my final piece of coursework.

Re: Good morning team

Good afternoon everyone,

Apologies for the absence from the forum. I have been very busy with work.

Unfortunately lots of 3D rendering is keeping my workstations busy so wcg output is low. I am rendering the most complex models I have ever worked on, and it has exceeded even my main dual Xeon 40 thread, 32GB RAM main workstation capabilities.

I have just added another 64GB RAM (giving me 96GB in total) and even this is not enough!

I have just ordered another 128GB RAM as the CPU usage is ranging from 3% to 60% as the SSD page file is bottlenecking performance. Something I have not seen for a very long time!

The rendering alone is currently using circa 163GB of memory!

Wow! That's mammoth! Got any examples of renders you've done crooks_uk?

Re: Good morning team

That must be some job Crooks_UK.
Would love to see the end result as well.

Anything I have done has worked comfortably in my meagre 8gb.

Re: Good morning team

Good morning, I slept for 6 hours last night, the most this past 2 weeks, and most importantly, woke up pain free!!!
Its been 15 years since I woke up with no pain at all.
Things are improving slowly yet surely.

I read a medical study last night, the new pills cost about £1680 a year, £2.30 a tablet.
Had my dosage upped to the maximum allowed, 250mg, no chemist had them in stock between Whitehead and Belfast, they had to be ordered in, guess I am one of a handful of people at this strength.

Re: Good morning team

Morning all. Sounds like things are improving Darkmatter.NI. Great news.
My son handed in his final university assignment on Thursday Bradley. He didn't get drunk though (he's diabetic), but he did celebrate with a Dominos feast.
I thought I was being a bit lavish installing 32GB in my new desktop i7 workstation. What sort of models are you rendering, crooks_uk?
