I'm afraid this lack of variety on the projects is getting tedious... With about 50 SN2S tasks every day for the next two weeks, I'm overrun with work for this project. I've had a few Fight Aids tasks (about 20 waiting to run) and every week I get one Clean Energy task.
I say tedious, but when there were about 8 or so live projects it was interesting to see what my systems were doing. Now I can guess without even looking, a few more snails... Considering that WCG did that big survey and we as participants try to promote it to the world, I think it's about time we saw a big increase in projects of a global benefit to mankind. |

I'm afraid this lack of variety on the projects is getting tedious... Maybe I'm misreading your post, but the WCG isn't here for your entertainment. We are here for the WCG. It has been explained amply why the projects are currently running and why other projects have finished or are intermittent. It has also been explained that everything possible is being done to get projects online, but there are many things that need to be done (and done correctly) before the WUs are released to the crunchers. Things will pick up once the new project arrives for crunchers and the intermittent projects become full again. We all just need to have some patience. CJSL Crunching for a better world... |

I'm afraid this lack of variety on the projects is getting tedious... Maybe I'm misreading your post, but the WCG isn't here for your entertainment. We are here for the WCG. Hi, Hmm I disagree. I'm here because I think it's fun. I've seen so many posts from crunchers justifying lack of communication from WCG. E.g. "they don't have enough ressources", "they need to focus on important things", "they don't have time to implement badges", "we're here for them, not the opposite" "they are busy..." How do you know this? Are you just repeating what has already been said? Do you REALLY know what you're talking about? Why are you defending this? Why do you accept this lack of information? It is your electric bill! If only my customers were as understanding as the WCG crunchers.... I would totally accept delay or lack of communication if the project was run by volunteers/for free. But as far as I understand the WCG emploeeys are on IBM payroll. Meaning the people running this are professionals and are getting paid to run this thing. ![]() |

You are to a degree misreading my post. I'm afraid I take issue with your approach, just as you have to mine. I do this because I cannot give millions to charity or fix the problems of the world with a magic wand. It's my electric bill, my hardware that is being burnt out (and yes, it does happen) and I view it as a serious failing of this whole organisation that they cannot get new projects out for me to work on. As it is, I also crunch for SETI and have done for years.
I have read on a number of threads that the WUs for SN2S are intermittent and in shortish supply...yeah right. I've got hundreds of them here and I'd really like to be doing something else for a while. I'm not saying that SN2S isn't important, but this is very poor management by the WCG (or IBM who I believe employ them). It's also very bad timing for WCG, having recently been in the news all over the world. Why can't we get an official response on this "new project" ? It's been talked about for ages now. But it's singular: we need 10 new projects, not one. |

-Helle-... I think you're getting issues mixed up...
----------------------------------------"they don't have enough ressources", "they need to focus on important things", "they don't have time to implement badges", The current status of the WCG projects (which was my was my original comment) has nothing to do with the issues you list. It has to do with economy (the sequester), scientists and technology complexity."they are busy..." The "busy" part would probably be true (see next comment)How do you know this? Are you just repeating what has already been said? Do you REALLY know what you're talking about? Yeah, I know what I'm talking about, because I work for IBM Why are you defending this? Why do you accept this lack of information? huh... I'm not defending the points you listed (which have nothing to do with my original comment) and there hasn't been a lack of information: the status (and the why of that status) of the projects has been repeated ad nauseam Hmm I disagree. I'm here because I think it's fun. Great, I think it's fun too, but the WCG isn't here to satisfy your or my whims. It's here to provide help to the scientists and technicians to find solutions, treatments and hopefully cures to terrible diseases that affect our world and improving technologies that can make this a better place to live. The point that we can help find medical solutions and provide help to technology and on top have fun is why I'm here crunching away.CJSL Gotta keep crunching, because there's a world to save !!! |

sjcsystems... The process of getting a project on board is probably very complex and definitely doesn't depend solely on IBM (I'll try to comment on this a little more later).
----------------------------------------Why can't we get an official response on this "new project" ? It's been talked about for ages now ah, this has been explained over and over and over... but basically breaks done to this: these projects are complex and many times (if not most of the time) contains issues (technical, logical, etc) that were not foreseen that may delay the launch date of the project. Therefore, so not to get everybody's hopes dashed all over the place when the "date" comes and goes and nothing shows up, the WCG prefer to keep quiet until the project's out the door. ... and I'm sure that the WCG has been burned a couple of times by announcing a launch date and not being able to keep it.... but this is very poor management by the WCG (or IBM who I believe employ them) IBM is a supporter of the WCG, which provides servers and resources to maintain those servers. The scientists are from research centers and universities from all over the world. IBM doesn't employ the WCG.Now, what would be useful for ALL of us, would be to understand how a project starts at WCG: who starts it, who approaches who, etc. That would be interesting to know and would answer a lot of the forum's questions. Hello everybody,
Yes, there is a long loud silence. From the little I knew, I would have expected a beta test to begin around late August to mid-September. As we all know, that didn't happen. I expect that means some poor suffering programmer trying to debug alpha code deserves our sympathy. What else can I say? Please post all your posts containing hugs and kisses in this thread.
