NEW Projects?

Hopefully I haven't missed a posting in answer to my question, but has anybody seen information on new projects or possible beta testing about to start? I know there was a little information months ago about new research about to start, but with only 3 active projects currently running and about to wind down it appears that WCG is soon to be no more. Looking forward to more crunching on WCG!

Re: NEW Projects?

The childhood cancer crew is evidently still working on getting their next target ready. There is a difficult to crystallize protein so who knows how long it will be. There are some intimations of a new project but no details so far. The schistosoma project is supposed to preparing new work units, no indication as to when yet. Perhaps Dr. Perryman will let us know what is in store for further work on FAAH as experiment 41 winds down. And of course CEP2 grinds on. I trust the techs and scientists will put out new work when it is ready and not before.
Cheers

Re: NEW Projects?

biggrin
I like Sgt. Joe's word "intimations". Yes, there have been "intimations" that a new project is coming through the pipeline, but I have not heard any recent details about progress, so we can all wait in equal ignorance.

There is some hopeful information from Dr. Perryman about FAAH. He is talking about checking his new targets to see whether AutoDock or AutoDock Vina is more accurate for that molecule. It is easy to tell BOINC which program to use with a particular work unit, so it would be possible to run one unit on AutoDock Vina and another FAAH work unit on AutoDock at the same time. I have no idea when or even whether this will show up on FAAH, but the implication is clear - - Dr. Perryman has a lot of targets to run after we finish Target #41.

Added: No news about a GPU project. I just realized I had better add this. devilish

Re: NEW Projects?

I have checked the boxes "Participate in All Projects" and "..opt me in to new projects as they become available" and the only work units I get are FAAH and some clean energy. These are the two projects that I am least interested in. This is an extremely limited project menu and I am getting restless about it. Please advise.

Re: NEW Projects?

FAAH & CEP2 are the only projects active at this time. SN2S, DSfL and HFCC are "Intermittent" and currently waiting on the project scientists to provude new work. CfCW is "Intermittent" pending a decision whether more work is required.

The only definitive information from WCG about new projects is that the next project to be released will be cancer based (but will not be GPU capable at least initially). This is expected "later this summer".

And posts like this are exactly the reason that the techs are so hesitant to release ANY information about when they expect something to happen. Unexpected obstacles occur and suddenly there is a rash of criticism because they didn't meet some arbitrary deadline.

It will be here when it gets here and that will be when it's ready.

Sure there are news raised eyebrow . Alpha tests have identified some non-significant issues, so a project has been sent back to scientists. Everything is in order to meet its expected launch in fall shhh

Cheers peace
