I REALLY DO WISH that this doesn't happen again... (i.e., the project scientists actually engage with the people who are providing them with all this FREE data - us, the mere crunchers).

They have to realize they are not hidden in their labs anymore and they have to employ some marketing people to engage with people like us in language we understand (i.e. non-scientific).

Cheers and NI!

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

I should have just enough to get a sapphire badge in my pending validation and in progress queues. I am bowing out. Good luck to everybody else on their badge hunt.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

Just curious... what happens if everyone loads up the full 10 days on their WU cache, and then underclocks their PC to half the speed. Potentially this will slow the completion rate, and get you 20 days of buffer?

If one person does this, theoretically the last 6 days will not be done by that computer, tossed back into the work buffer and eaten by the reliable computers and done rather quickly. If the client in question can't get each task done in an hour or less, the BOINC client could enter the panic mode by running into bizarre high priority issues that has been reported in the past well before the 10th day - and may end up getting half of each task done causing all half-completed tasks and tasks that have not been started to miss the deadline if the client was left to its own device.

Now multiply that by everyone. Who knows what will happen when both all clients and the server get confused by this experiment. It would be interesting one to document.

That's a somehow incomplete task name. It's more likely cfsw_18009_18009313_1. Well that does it... 4-5 days and baby starts crying.

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

The current estimate shows a little over two weeks of new work to send out for Computing for Sustainable Water. Not all of the work is being loaded sequentially.

Thanks,
armstrdj

Thanks for that armstrdj - as it now gives me belief that I will, indeed be able to reach Ruby safely.

I just want to make sure I understand correctly what this means: are you saying that you have enough new work to keep sending it out at the recent high rate for about two more weeks?

Thanks in advance for clarification.

Kate

Re: Computing for Sustainable Water project nearing completion

By leaving gaps in the distribution the highest serie isn't so important to know, but anyway, UTC+2:
04.09.2012 23:01:59 | World Community Grid | Started download of cfsw_18134_18134072_D18134072.sql

This indicates 685 series since yesterday, but isn't very interesting since has no idea how many series has really been issued.

Now, where is the status-page showing the actual info then you needs it...
