Re: New Beta test Started Jan 30, 2012

I got a few more earlier. Around 3 hrs to complete. For some reason DSFL jumped to 14 hrs to crunch, but usually takes 6-8 hrs. Wondering if the betas tweaked something to cause this.

Techs, Could we please have some more betas? I need 40 DAYS more to get gold! crying

Re: New Beta test Started Jan 30, 2012

Is there a timeout on these WUs, other than the deadline?
The 2 current WUs on my laptop keep sticking. When I reboot they go backwards and stick again.
Instead of about 5 hrs crunching, one of them has had over 24hrs but due to the reboots, it is now at 4hrs and 80%
The other one is at 1.5hrs and 20%

I don't really want to abort them.

update: 1 finished in just under 6hrs. I suspended all but the WU so that the laptop was only working on that 1 over both cores. Doing the same on the other beta WU.

Yes, it's Duration Correction Factor (DCF) being increased by the Betas that causes that. Part of the Beta test is to improve the estimated time to completion. When the initial estimates are low and the actual run times are higher, the DCF for all WUs is increased. It gradually reduces back to 1.0 again as you complete correctly-estimated WUs. See the FAQ .

The other Inconclusive went Valid for me (1.29 hrs), but Invalid for the long-running wingman (9.35 hrs).

Re: New Beta test Started Jan 30, 2012

This one was my only error. I don't think it was an "actual" error, looks like it simply took longer to run than the built in maximum allowed runtime. (It was on an old PentiumD pc).

I am sure that we will be notified if there are any more even larger WUs to test.

Re: New Beta test Started Jan 30, 2012

With an apparent first effort through the AAB's to cut the new Beta science tasks to size, containing either 12, 20 or 24 jobs [not seen other counts], the observations are:

Slowish Device: 6 processed, run times from 4.38 to 7.04 or +/- 25% variance from mean.

Faster Device: 18 processed, run times from 3.58 to 5.05 or +/- 23% variance from mean.

Fastest Device: 14 processed, run times from 2.20 to 3.74 hours or +/- 25% variance from mean.

One valid result not counted as it was an outlier at 20 minutes **. On 38 results a min-max variance of about 24% from mean is not so bad, calling for cautiousness on cache settings, as some task batches could push the totals above the desired average return time of below 2 days to remain in the "Reliable A++" class of devices to receive Repair/No Reply wingman assignments.

--//--

edit: ** had only 4 jobs in it... an end of string left over during the "Uplinger chopper" operations, or by design?

Re: New Beta test Started Jan 30, 2012

Got a few more than I though I would; 90 - thanks for being Euro friendly.
54Valid, 14PV, 22IP. No Errors/Aborts/Inconclusive's so far.

The AAA tasks were better for old/lite systems, but some were a bit too short for high end/mid range systems; too much task starting and stopping reduces overall performance:
