Crunching is a good hobby; I've had(have) many others that generate no helpful results for anyone other than myself. Its also not so demanding, I can leave computers untouched as long as I want unless I choose to mess around with them.

I am finally over 200k PPD. Past couple days I have cleared 200K and im adding another 2600K in the next couple weeks so then it is a for sure thing :D
----------------------------------------The following are all my rigs in my room. HTPC - QX6700 stock in a mATX Asus board (model escapes me) 4gb ram Bench system - Q9650 @ 3.9GHz in a Maximus II formula LC'ed 2gb ram Ded. Cruncher #1 - 2600K @ 4.5GHz in a Maximus IV Gene-Z 4gb ram Ded. Cruncher #2 - 2600K @ 4.5GHz in a Maximus IV Extreme (not running yet) 16gb ram Main rig - 2600K @ 4.8-5.0Ghz in a GA-Z68-UD5 LC'ed 16gb ram Server - 3930K stock in a Asus P979X WS 16gb ram - I may need to sell this one Others but still owned by myself Parents comp - E6600 @ 3.6GHz some Asus mobo 4gb ram Nephew's comp - E8650 stock Striker Extreme 4gb ram I am a 27 yo that came to this hobby initially back in 07 as a means to stress my systems that I could never get stable (Striker Extreme and QX6700). Since then it has evolved into almost an obsession of finding whatever resources possible to dedicate to crunching. I don't do much in the lines of charity or community service so this is my way of contributing with something that I have a great passion for (computers). And lately it has served as an excuse to build and try out new hardware. I just built two new crunchers with 2600K's and I plan to eventually sell them to build more with other hardware. ZipSpeed and Bun-Bun congratulations

I'm eagerly waiting to see what MM comes up with.
----------------------------------------Also, joining the club with round about 300,000 WCG PPD. One of 4 people in my team who would qualify. My farm consists of: 1x i5 2500K @ 4GHz (Part time) 4x i7 2600K @ 4.5GHz 1x i7 2700K @ 4.6GHz 1x i7 3930K @ 4.6GHz 2x Xeon L5639 @ stock (just brought this one online) Started off as a hobby when I was unemployed, but the more I've invested in it since I got a job, the more I've also read about people's personal reasons to do it and the papers behind the research. To sum up, it's now a hobby motivated by personal interest in the research and the potential it has. Being part of a great team is also a big booster for motivation. Whenever I can I try to give something back :) |

Thanks Not much of a nuisance, most of them I keep in a separate room, without a case, on a shelf unit. SandyBridge CPU's put out a lot less heat are a lot less power hungry than the Nehalems I used to run, so definitely a sustainable farm. |

Though I have it good in that I have a business where I can store and run most of these computers. And the company pays the electricity! ![]() |
