Crunching Goals

How did people get on with their crunching goals for 2011?
What are your goals for 2012?

I made it to sapphire in a project.
I didn't make it to Ruby in the Snurk global globes, mainly due to the 2 latest projects.

Re: Crunching Goals

Actually I didn't have any goals for this year... it wasn't until I visited the forums for the first time sometime back in Sept of this year that the concept of "goal" started to take shape. My goal for 2012? Have all the projects that I'm participating in at least at gold level (considering my limited CPU power). Another goal that I want to chase after is to have at least 5 friends as new crunchers in WCG.

And while we're talking about 2012... I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year 2012 !!!

Re: Crunching Goals

A year takes so long in computer terms, it's hard to make realistic goals when things are advancing so quickly.

In any case, I made 5 years in HCMD2 and HFCC and 10 in HCC. Now I need to run those to 6 and 12 before the projects end. The harder one was getting CEP2 up to sapphire. The bandwidth on that project just kills my connection when three or more systems start uploading. I couldn't take not being able to use the internet for 15-30 minutes at a time so sapphire will be the highest for that one.

Then there are the accomplishments you'd never think possible...I MADE RUBY IN BETA!!! Honestly, I didn't even expect to hit gold this soon, so happy, happy, joy, joy.

With the new firepower coming on next year I suppose I should set some pretty high goals...So, no less than 10 years in every currently running project (except CEP2) including all the newly launched ones and Emerald in Beta (I'll be banking on HCC GPU and a couple new projects for this one.)

Re: Crunching Goals

In February 2011 I was at rank 70. Then unfortunately things worsened as my "supercomputer" wink was creating too much nuisance at home (thermal, noise etc.) Things improved and after slipping into the 90's I fought desperately back and now I am at rank 75.
I have a very precise target for 2012. Beat my precedent All-Time points ranking and again the long term target is top 50. biggrin

Re: Crunching Goals

I have crunched for WCG for three or four years. When Sandy Bridge cpu's were annouced and the first reviews appeared, it occured to me that these would be Demons of Crunch, and that I should get one/some. And lo! It came to pass that an i5 in a cheap tin box could out-crunch all that went before it. So, I decided to aim for as much crunching as I could in December, berfore I got my January electricity bill. This would be my charitable contribution this year. The weather has been mild, so I turn down the heating, and turn up the Boinc machines.

The machine is running 24/7, along with its friend, an i3, and producing some 6200 points a day. It wil have to stop soon, the house is already too hot, but the points have moved me into the top 34 in the country in terms of daily credit. Soon though, the holidays will be over, the corporate computers will come back online, and I will plummet back into obscurity.

Re: Crunching Goals

2011 saw me complete my Central cooling system which is oversized enough to cool everything I can afford to run (Hypernova, this is the way ahead for you perhaps).

I came up short on my 10,000,000 Boinc target but changing out 2 rigs when IB is released should put me back on track.

On the positive side the team hit position 2 in the list biggrin

Next year.... ??? A lot depends on how the introduction of GPU's is handled but on the cpu front I will be running 6 rigs not 4 before too long so that has to be good.

I would like to get over 200,000 ppd by year end

Re: Crunching Goals

Only started crunching a month and a half ago, was folding before. Not having that much time here my goal for 2012 is Snurk's sapphire badge.

Re: Crunching Goals

I'm a rather small player in comparison to many others posting here. I've never had more than 2 computers/laptops in my team since I've been a member. Right now I've got my business laptop as a dv7 - quad core machine (that I probably run about 40 hours a week) and a i3 laptop at home my family mostly uses for homework, e-mails et al that maybe runs 5 to 10 hours per week that I can only run the smaller projects workpackets like conquer cancer and I'm trying one or two others to see if I can get them turned around within the time limits.. In 2011, my goal was to take some of my gold levels to ruby - managed to due that for clean water and conquer cancer. At the moment I'm working on 3 projects, Fighting Childhood Cancer, Fight for Malaria, and the Leshman... (can't ever get the spelling on that one off my head). Right now for 2012 my goals will be to try to get the childhood cancer project from gold to ruby, and crunch on the malaria and leshman.... projects to see if I can get them to silver or even gold before 2012 is over. I'm seeing that the world community grid may add some more projects in 2012, so I'll probably add those new projects as well and see how many badges I can earn for them as well.
