Re: "The survivors"

That's good, I check the stats everyday to see how everyone is doing.
I look for new badges but find it difficult to remember them.
The new members have racked up a lot of badges since October.
Personally, I do not care about ranking, it is much more interesting to get new badges.
There is a huge disparity on WCG in that private individuals have to compete against organizations.
How are we supposed to compete with a cruncher that gets years of run time in one week?
We can't, therefore I don't even try.
As stated above, collecting colored badges is a lot more fun.

Re: "The survivors"

Also check results status and a new error is showing for DDDT2

Result Log
Result Name: dg05_ b470_ pr91a1_ 3--
<core_client_version>6.12.34</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
The system cannot write to the specified device. (0x1d) - exit code 29 (0x1d)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
INFO: No state to restore. Start from the beginning.
CHARGE OUTSIDE INNER GSBP REGION
Encountered error. Exiting.
</stderr_txt>
]]>

Looking further there are 3 errors all from the same work unit dg05_b470_pr91a1.
The results show 3 of the 5 results for that work unit errored and 2 are pending.
I don't believe it is my problem as there are no errors from the other work units.

Re: "The survivors"

They are having problems with DDDT2.
They need to run some Betas on those work units before distributing more.

Re: "The survivors"

Myself, I am beyond redemption but you may still turn out to be something.
MIT offers free online course material.
It does not provide a degree or certificate but it is real MIT courses.
You do not have access to faculty and are pretty much on your own.
This material is worth $$$ but is offered free for the taking.
Take a look, there may be something you always wanted to know more about.
There are a great range of subjects.

On this side of the pond the Open University is doing something similar. Around 600 free courses in all sorts of fields of interest and at different ability levels, but no awards/diplomas/degrees at the end. They do keep a record of your results on their website so you can see how you are progressing.

Re: "The survivors"

Brilliant information - Guitar Man's daughter studies math and statitics at the Open University ...

rcc, I need a shoulder - I'm not embracing Gevalia easily:

Dear Lidl!

When I started shopping with you, I could choose between at least four kinds of "Melangerie" coffee.
I tasted them all and the "Kenya, Guatemala, Columbia" blend became my favorite.
Then you cut down on the variants, so only "First Class" and my favorite were left.
Today my favorite was gone!

The deputy manager shrugged his shoulders ... and hinted that there's was nothing to do about that.
This may very well be the case, but it should not deter me from trying.

Will you never have my favorite on the shelves in any store anywhere in Denmark any more?
Do you have it in your German stores?
If yes, please inform me where I the nearest store. Burg on Fehmarn?

Mit freundlichen Grüsse ....

EDIT: It would not be any of you who is the mystery Linux "ordinary WCG cruncher"
who chipped in at Base Camp's Outpost Trek #3, would it?

Re: "The survivors"

Coffee emergency!!!!!!
There is better coffee than Gevalia but I have never purchased it in a supermarket.
I have developed the ability to drink any coffee as long as it is not flavored or roasted to nearly charcoal (French roast).
Cuban coffee is quite good but it has to have a little sugar to overcome the bitterness.
Good luck with Lidl http://franklludwig.com/lidl.html

I don't run Linux and I have no secrets.
How does it feel to have someone anonymous join your team and never communicate?
Golly, I wouldn't know!

Re: "The survivors"

Thank you for your support, rcc.
I'll let you know how Lidl, Denmark, reacts.
I'll save my last packet of Kenya-Guatemala-Columbia
for a very rainy day and substitute "First Class" wryly.

And I'll tell Rosie she may get go on a new trip to foreign
countries and expect to carry a heavy load home.
We do have specialty stores where I might get some
tasty coffeine if need be, but Lidl was so convenient.

Discount stores have been hard on their employees in
many cases in Denmark; they were not happy. But in
all honesty, the Lidl shops have had happy people working
there right from the start I began coming there.
I like that. The other chain stores seem to be following suit.

Base Camp is not really a team, rather a Movement rose
"anonymous" is a challenge, a riddle, good fun,
and I think about it a lot. Were I a team Captain,
my hair would turn gray at a faster clip.

Re: "The survivors"

I had a case of beer in my luggage on a trip from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale.
It was 24 cans of Olympia and they survived the trip.
Had to tip the baggage handlers well because they complained about the weight.

Aside from recruiting new crunchers what is a team captain's job description?

Re: "The survivors"

What would you like your Captain to do if you were a team member yourself, rcc?
In my opinion a Captain should:
1. Try to keep existing members happy so they don't jump ship
2. Try to keep existing members happy so they don't jump ship
3. Try to keep existing members happy so they don't jump ship
3. Try to keep existing members happy so they don't jump ship
4. Go fishing for more members
You do all of this as well as any could wish for tongue

Re: "The survivors"

DDDT2 work units are creating errors.
The production run continues; they will reissue the error WUs.
What that means is that they do not plan to fix the problems.
Personally, I have limited resources and don't want to waste CPU time with errors.
The project is no longer intermittent and shows 691 days of work remaining.
Therefore I am not running DDDT2 at this time.
