little mermaid, because he said please and direct linking does not credit the author/artist/owner.

Yes, we are turning into a chip tuning, chip loving, chip hugging group.
The purpose of which is to crunch our brains out for the good of humanity.
And occasionally we are visited by a mermaid to remind us that life is not just crunching.

Re: "The survivors"

Oh, well.
So I wrote James Rahn, the owner of the picture
http://jamesrahn.com/
and told him I used his picture in a way he asked it not to be used.
He's into numbers
I found a picture from your website so cute that I linked directly to it.
I did it in a place you would like
- a place where we use our computers' surplus cpu capacity for
crunching numbers for science to help the researchers solve the
mysteries and find cures for among other things: Cancer.
Maybe you would like to join?

- and put the WCG link in it smile
rose Thank you for putting up with me, rcc.
I know I'm a pest to some sad

Re: "The survivors"

grumpy,
In addition to you and me there are at least 2 more members running i7 processors.
Can't tell what the other 4 are running because they are not showing any hosts on BOINC all Project Stats
http://www.de.allprojectstats.com/top.php?type=4&projekt=6&teamid=9611
Can you and do you ever log into BOINC all Projects Stats?

Re: "The survivors"

hey most of my cores are 4+ years old I do admit my wife just got an I7 for Christmas.... and i can crunch on it.....hey she got what she wanted and I also got a nice power boost...

Ok she asked for a new computer i guess she really didn't need a
Intel® Core™ i7-2600 3.40GHz Processor
8GB DDR3 Memory
1TB Hard Disk Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

but for $900 i could budget I figured she would want the power even if 90+% of it was only ever used by BOINC

Re: "The survivors"

nasher,
Somewhat similar story.
My wife's computer crashed a while back; it won't boot and the POST code is not listed in the documentation.
Original cost was $2,700.
She couldn't wait so she bought a AMD quad core for about $800.
I told her I could fix her old one but why put a few hundred into it when I can buy some parts and build one.
So I got an okay to proceed.
She didn't need an overclocked i7 but I was able to put one together for not much more than the quad core.
Well, maybe a little more, but I never totaled the cost so I can't answer the question "how much did it cost?"
Of course I plan to test that new i7 for about 6 months to make sure it is stable, which is just long enough to get my badges.

Re: "The survivors"

So i goes to the link above (allprojectstats) and find it interesting, but...

What do we do with this info?

I also notice that all of your new conscripts have no entry in the 'hosts' column.

Is this something we have to populate, or is there some magic which has not happened?

sad

Re: "The survivors"

grumpy,
It is just more statistics and there is nothing to do unless you seek more info than WCG provides.
It told me info about member PCs that shows the type of CPU and number of cores.
You will probably never use this info.
As the captain of the team I like to know more specific info than WCG provides.
I provided the link so you would know where I found the data.

Not sure what the relationship is between BOINC stats and all projects stats.
I did this in 2007 and don't remember doing anything special.
Because the most recent 5 members to join have the same issue it may be associated with the sign-up process used by WCG.
Don't know much about BOINC Stats so I will have to search for an answer.
I don't think it is something you populate it is the same data in the event log and some magic didn't happen.
