Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

6.17 still appears to hog the CPU.
Boinc manager on 1.6Ghz laptop shows 2:17 elapsed and 6:30 CPU time.
Suspended after a few seconds, no change to Boinc manager display.

Still not viable for these older systems.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Another 6.17 beta has crashed with a Widows message that the WU has ceased to function and the option to close or search for reason etc.

here is the info from the computer's log:

I had 1 of these too. The error log showed the same exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) error.
2 other wingmen had valid results.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this error. The ones I get are returned valid by someone else and the resends I get for the same error are valid for me. confused

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

I'm still getting CPU hogging with Win XP 32 when running a full house WUs at the same time. Task manger shows the WUs running at priority low but it overpowers other tasks running at the same priority by giving them no CPU time. By manually forcing the priority up on the other tasks the get CPU again. I experienced this on both a duel & a quad.
On both systems the display will freeze up for a few seconds and then run normal for a random period between 20 & 30 seconds. This behavior stops when I suspend one of the running WUs

Edit
No errors yet

I agree that this phenoenon is hard to understand.

The only common denominator (in my case) is that these errors are only happening on one particular Win7 64-bit machine. This, however, would appear to be a red herring because the same machine has no errors on the remaining betas it processes (and 0% of other types of WU).

This same machine has returned 1 error in 6.15, 6.16 and 6.17.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Regarding "-1073741819 (0xc0000005) error", don't know if this will help or not (probably not -- but)

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

I have had 4 x 6.16 go valid, 1 in PV with 1 x 6.17 at 2.5% and the last waiting to go, spread across 2 W7 64 PC's - nothing abnormal so far and the load spread on the cores doesn't seem to be creating any issues, so far.....

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Thanks for the link.

1-4 None of these are applicable for me
5-6 Other beta WUs are working and reporting *Valid* status, so I am not suspecting these states to be relevant
7 same as 4-6.

I am not going to run memtest until it can be specifically confirmed that faulty memory is the cause.
