Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

On my Intel P6800 which has only 3 gig memory 2.4 Ghz I found the BETA stuck, elapsed time was increasing but task was not progressing, suspend/resume did not do anything, did not change when I suspended with LAIM turned off. 1st reboot found the task waiting for GPU memory, eventually after a couple of reboots and shutting down all other PC activity was able to get it restarted and it ran to completion and successful validation ....although I did lose about 6 hours of elapsed time. I don't see anything in the log except a large number of suspend threads and resume threads. If you would like I can post the log but it is really long!!! I have another BETA running now, will keep an eye on it .

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

The thick plotens...

My wife just complained to me about her ancient P4 (HT on) locking up on her. It had also picked up a couple of betas. These hangs also seemed to last 10-20 seconds. (BTW, the mouse pointer keeps moving OK.) When she'd finished her e-mails I took a look.

I too experienced these hangs and so started the task manager. Again I couldn't correlate them to anything obvious (and besides, the job steps were running for tens of minutes on that machine). After a bit things seems to quieten down, again for no obvious reason. I played some more with task manager and did notice some short hiccoughs. One thing I did see was explorer.exe bubbling to the top of CPU usage with 50% as one of the beta step tasks dropped to 0%, but only for one refresh of the task manager display. Memory commit charge was at about 85-90% installed RAM. I couldn't hear the disk drive doing more than the odd tick -- it certainly wasn't thrashing.

Just reporting what I see. Happy to look deeper if anyone has any suggestions.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Something else I just noticed on the P4 -- the task properties dialog shows CPU time as MORE than elapsed time by around 13 minutes (after 8 hours) on both beta WUs. On my laptop the one beta WU still running shows the other way by over half an hour (but then, I've been watching the BBC iPlayer on that).

Uplinger,

Are you still running that error credit script? I've got a couple -1073741819 errors that I've been looking at for two days and they haven't been credited yet.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

I had 2 Beta's running at the same time with Use At Most set to 50% of CPU. Task Manager showed it running at 100% for 8-12sec straight and then dropping for 1-2sec. CoreTemp showed that temp had jumped more than 15°C. Reduced Use At Most to 40% which didn't help.

I eneded up suspending one of the Beta's. Now running a Beta against a HCC. Temp is back in my normal range and Task Manager is showing regular peaks and valleys.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

I am seeing similar issues to what Apis Tintinnambulator reported. The betas seem to run fine on my i7 running Mac OS, but on my old Pentium III running Windows 2000 the computer becomes unresponsive for 10-30 seconds at a time. Bringing up Task Manager took half a minute, and Task Manager updated only once or twice a minute. The delay varied. Switching tabs and closing Task Manager also took almost half a minute each.

In addition, the time counters in BOINC Manager sometimes freeze. Once, after being frozen for about 30 minutes, I suspended and resumed (with LAIM on), and it resumed counting right where it left off. Twenty minutes later it froze again for maybe 15 minutes, and then it resumed on its own with the elapsed time jumping forward seven minutes. After less than three hours on the wall clock, the elapsed time is already more than an hour behind, despite this task running at 100% and being the only thing running on the computer (except for BOINC Manager and the brief run of Task Manager).

The above is with beta v6.16. With v6.15, it ran through to completion on the same machine (although the result was invalid, like others have reported).

EDIT: Ok, a few words:
Before pressing the button "Programma afsluiten" the task was in running state. Windows Vista64.
Other v6.16's returned so far: 3 PV's, 3 Valids where of 1 of mine ran v6.15, but the wingman v6.16.
