Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

IMHO the Linux application is already quite stable. As was the case with version 6.14 I couldn't detect any (significant) issues. Runtime was around 9 hours on a Pentium-M 1600 which seems to be about the correct result size considering that results are supposed to run about 6 hours on an average machine.

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Some will have observed how the sub-names such as 'ampc' have gone.

The 6 that came my way all completed without hitch. Gave them the full works of anything to break them under Linux, but they would not perish:

Oh, what's my eye resting on... effortlessly another beta waiting to be pushed ahead of the queue.

Later last night, again at that curious time around 03:05-03:15am, 4 jobs (CEP2 and C4CW) went south on signal 11 taking 24 hours of CPU time with them. No idea why this has happened middle of the night and same narrow time segment for multiple time now... days in-between.

P.S. Think it's 'perish' with an 'e' ... WCG is the parish of computational biology ;D

edit: That additional BETA_BETA was a self-starter on W7-32... very short deadline repair job \o/

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Interestingly, the 2.4Ghz Linux quad took from 5:20 to 5:59 CPU hours (science app 32 bits, OS 64 bits). The W7-32 1.8Ghz took 9:40-10:56. Might want to have a look at the included steps to get a feel for any speed differential, minus the Hertz.

I did in fact. There's a particular reason for this?

To give you more figures for you comparison: my most recent result consisted of 28 steps resulting in a runtime of 9:03:39. Considering the number of steps is not sufficient, however, since my previous beta result consisted of 40 steps but had a final CPU time of only 6:19:19 (all crunched on the same 1.6 GHz machine).

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

Uplinger mentioned 4 types and the estimation skill of the how long certain ligands would take. If the production WU sub names could be an indicator, those of closer watch would then maybe be able to tell what cat is purring in the machine. It's similar to the 8 sub-C-types of DDDT2... they give a good indication for a machine how long they generally would run. Maybe the interest is a moot point, and when production commences the run-time bands will be rather narrow for all i.e. 9:45 hours on a 1.6Ghz device and 5:50 on a 2.4Ghz.

Think we're not far of launch... techs/programmers working in the weekend to launch new versions through their paces...

Five days to go for silver. Are WU in the pipe or is it shut off?

Re: New Beta starting Aug 23, 2011

I too have been problem-free under Linux with the 615 and 616 batches on both Intel and AMD hosts. Here are my only 616 WUs:

BETA_ BETA_ 00002025_ 0000003_ 0372_ 1-- system76-pc Pending Validation 8/27/11 18:21:19 8/28/11 14:51:27 3.98 114.1 / 0.0
BETA_ BETA_ 00002025_ 0000003_ 0748_ 1-- kate-amd64 Valid 8/27/11 18:10:11 8/28/11 01:35:27 4.19 110.9 / 94.6

"system76-pc" is a 2.53 GHZ Core 2 Duo, and "kate-amd64" is a 2.6 GHz Phenom II X4. Neither of them has HT, and they're completing WUs in way under 6 hrs. Someone earlier in this thread commented that these betas don't seem to like HT. Maybe this is a little bit of further evidence in that direction.
