coffee coffee coffee Good Sunday Morning MOT coffee coffee coffee
Congratulations Gerald, Judson and jpenning. Lots of milestones recently. smile smile

keith-dtk. That discussion of the time value of money and peace of mind is always tricky; especially if you are entering retirement. My wife is one of those people that want the "piece of mind". When we retired, she talked me out of a couple of decisions. And, it was a good thing that I listened; had I not, I would be "listening" a lot more wink

Judson, I will remain in the right lane for when you come wooshing by. smile

Yes, it's tricky because the answer differs for everyone. I have a wicked practical streak that can drive folks crazy so I've come to focus more on cash flow than maximizing returns and such. Having enough coming in on a regular basis to at least match what's going out has a lot going for it. Many years ago, we paid off all our debt and then started saving up for a down payment. When we bought our house, we put 20 percent down. I was fortunate to get a mortgage that didn't require us to escrow for taxes and insurance. I do that anyway, just on my own. I also do anything else that isn't paid monthly. Eliminating those big fluctuations from month to month in cash flow does wonders! I'm working on getting up to having cash on hand to cover 24 months of all expenses but still have a ways to go. Getting the house paid off before I retire is a big goal too. For me, the last thing you want in retirement is a mortgage payment. One of the few good things about the big recession is that a lot of folks have learned the importance of saving.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

Yes, I always try to save at least 10% of what I earn. You never miss it and it has been a life saver more then once. Nothing like missing close to a year of work with no saving! People often think it can never happen but sometimes it does! RT you will in the right lane for years if you wait for me! Now back on HCC and length of time to complete WU's dropped from about 2:12+/- on the more powerful crunchers to 1:43+/-. Not a bad difference so hopefully as a team will break our MOT results records any day now! It is never bad to spend less then you earn!!!

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

By my rough estimate, RT is about two weeks away from completing his first century of crunching.

pramodp, that first million is getting close now! Not much more.

It looks like Dr. Mike's points are dropping. I really hope he's okay but I'm still worried!!

It looks like we'll pass our production for all of 2008 in about 7-10 days.

We are just shy of averaging 735K points a day for the year.

Another 18 results returned today and we would have broken our 3.75 year old results record.

I had not noticed Dr. Mike's points but it has been a while since we have heard from him.. Now you have me worried as well Keith.

Since several of us are back to the new improved HCC windows project, we should get through quite a few WUs now. I am expecting my new MB to come in today so I will not have all hands on deck but still should have a good day.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

Yes, it's tricky because the answer differs for everyone. I have a wicked practical streak that can drive folks crazy so I've come to focus more on cash flow than maximizing returns and such. For me, the last thing you want in retirement is a mortgage payment. One of the few good things about the big recession is that a lot of folks have learned the importance of saving.

I hear what you are saying. I have had my house paid off for some time and I have been retired for over a year. Come April 15, I will be 68 young years old. All I have to do is keep all those in my family in check as to what they spend. However, they come back saying I am spending too much on the house. Of course I can always get back to them by saying I am increasing its value and I am eliminating or reducing some of our monthly expenses. As to what is happening on Wall Street, etc., a lot of things are becoming cheaper but I have to keep an eye on what I have to make sure I sell (and buy) at the right time.
