I just lost one of my crunchers the other day. It was a Dell Precision 360.
----------------------------------------Talk about a work horse, though. That thing has been crunching with me since the day I signed up - back in 2004. It crunched everyday for 6 and a half years! It probably would have lasted longer had I blown the dust out of it more often. ![]() I might try to revive it, but the power connection to the motherboard is fused to the motherboard. Perhaps I may just bury it in my back yard. So sad to see it go... ![]()

Team Records: Results Returned: 12/19/2007 2,522 Points: 04/06/2011 970,879 Runtime: 01/25/2006 1:123:00:53:34 It's another new daily points record! That first million point day seems so much closer. Even nicer is that our Results and Runtime records are now just out on the horizon. Results has seemed like it was in intersteller space in the past. That was set way back in the days when there was one project with very small workunits that really drove that number up. Now they both look like they're within reach in due time. Good to see folks posting here. If you read our thread, we'd love to hear from you. It doesn't have to be every day. Every week or two would be fine! Don't be a stranger. ![]() Edit: Just checked and noticed that we're just 10,708,874 point away from matching our total 2008 production. That should happen this month and probably in the next two weeks or so. Imagine taking less than four months to beat what we did three years ago! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by keithhenry at Apr 7, 2011 2:38:37 AM] |

Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!! Perhaps my computer is malfunctioning as I never dreamed I would se those kind of points especially as my second best crunched has been off line since Sunday! Excited for Dataman as I have been to lobby in Washington and Austin, as an individual not professionally several times and it is really crazy. Glad you will have time together. Solar stuff is so interesting but in the back woods where I live it is an anti black hole as light flows away from us! Once HCC comes back up, currently doing clean up jobs I and I assume RT will go back to 100% HCC and results should shoot up. Way to go team.

I hope your coach has a diesel engine in it, but I have a feeling that it doesn't. 100 gallons of diesel in two tanks and 10 gallons of gas that runs the generator. A fill up will bring tears to your eyes. ![]() Be sure to check in (I assume you will have some form of internet) and keep us informed on your adventures! We will do that. I am working on the connectivity problem. Connectivity is no problem but what I want to do is use any WIFI spot to connect to my network here as a remote terminal and use the same IP. Apparently this can be done but I don't know how. I have a call to a network engineer that I used many times as a subcontractor before I retired. He is a truely brilliant and very strange individual (WaReZ ![]() ![]() Listen for the horn ... it goes OOOOOGAAAA. ![]() ![]() |

Once HCC comes back up, currently doing clean up jobs I and I assume RT will go back to 100% HCC and results should shoot up. Way to go team. I agree..the points did a funny thing yesterday. They have been depressed lately (I assumed in validation) and we must have had some sort of jailbreak -- perhaps in C4CW. I bet there is more in there. I have been having a great deal of trouble with my BIOSTAR motherboard. It is practically useless (read re-booting my main computer and tinkering with the NIC 4 or 5 times a day). Their customer service will not even respond. So that is $130+ down the drain. I am hoping that NewEgg will take it back but I have had it a month now....I am going to order a replacement today.. probably a GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD3P-B3 ATX. I plan to go back to HCC when the time comes, as of now I am running HCCC and C4CW and a bit of HCC on the Ubuntu machines so things are a bit scattered. Sorry to hear about the timely demise of your Precision 360 Chris. All good things must come to an end. ![]() As to solid state drives, there are several issues: They are relatively small (as disk drives go), expensive, and require a real harddrive backup. All these issues are slowly going away as the price/Gigabyte comes down. They are fast...very fast. No doubt that at some point they will dominate, it is just not quite there yet im my humble opinion. Like flat screen TVs, as the price came down, they took the market. I think mechanical disks will be around a long time but more as backup, long term and "mass" storage device once the SS drives become cost-effective. (first in laptops and netbooks and tablets because of the relatively low energy demand of the SS drives that extend battery life). Everyone have a great day! ![]() ![]() Edit:> typo ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Apr 7, 2011 1:44:38 PM] |

While in an online chat with Newegg, I thought I had them convinced to RMA this blinking BioStar Motherboard and then, just in the middle, the machine froze again.

Are all the MB problems related to hardware from NewEgg? I have been thinking about building a computer, and I stop in at Fry's Electronics every so often to see what is available in cases, MBs, memory, and so on. Sometimes I see some likely candidates but I have not had the time to go whole hog into it. My biggest problems with what I have are being able to get a wireless connection, and I am running out of ports to use for hardwire connection (my router/modem is AT&T).
