coffee coffee coffee Good Monday Morn Team coffee coffee coffee

snip..snip

It looks like Dr. Mike's points are dropping. I really hope he's okay but I'm still worried!!

snip..snip

Another 18 results returned today and we would have broken our 3.75 year old results record.

I had not noticed Dr. Mike's points but it has been a while since we have heard from him.. Now you have me worried as well Keith.

Since several of us are back to the new improved HCC windows project, we should get through quite a few WUs now. I am expecting my new MB to come in today so I will not have all hands on deck but still should have a good day.

RT, I missed what has gone on with the HCC project. What can you say, or point me to, to bring me up to date.

I hope we hear from Dr. Mike so we will know what's happening. I hope it is just a problem with a machine.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

Hey dkt.

Long story short, the good folks at WCG made some changes including changing the compiler for the HCC project on Windows. They improved the performance a good deal. So now you can accomplish the same amount of science with much less computer time. I am thinking 40% or so improvement. smile smile

The old version was 6.40 and the new 6.42

Everyone have a great day!

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

Hi Dave,
The name of the company that I went through is SunGevity. The lease that I have is 10 years, with the option to extend another 5 years. After that, I believe I can get the equipment exchanged and set up another lease.
I can't emphasize how much these panels have helped. I was having $300-$350 electricity bills. My last bill was $1.29.
If all goes well, I will get a credit this month as the meter is back to where it started on March 9.

Also, I don't mean to advertise, but if you give them referral code 44052, you will get a $500 gift card.

Hope you get signed up. This is going to be a very nice summer! I won't be afraid to run the A/C! biggrin

Hi Chris, I have been talking with David Presson at Sungevity, but I forgot about the referral code. I will get back to David on Monday as I want to change the terms for my lease. With no down payment, the lease payment is $152 a month, but with a $7500 down payment, the lease payment is $61 a month. Do you have any comments on this proposal?

The difference between $152 and $61 is $91. If I take the $7500 and divide by 10, my cost is $750 a year. $750 divided by 12 gives me the monthly amount related to the down payment ($62.50) or almost an additional $29 a month in savings. The down payment would not be a problem since my investments usually change by that much or more per day.

I would welcome any comments,
Dave

Hi Dave,
If you can afford the $7500 down, I would certainly do that. As long as that $7500 is not a loan, that is.

I received my March electric bill and it was 97 cents. The month before, it was about $1.20. This month, SCE is going to owe me money.

So the only bill I have now is the $103 for the panels. I kind of wish I would have put some money down on them, now.

But compared to the $350 a month I was paying for electricity, I am still very happy with only $103 a month. Plus, any money I get from SCE will start paying for them.

What size of system are they building you? Mine is 5.7 kWs, but the inverter takes some of that so it's supposed to yield about 5.3 kWs. Anyway, it's running me $103 a month, so yours is considerably larger at $152 a month, or the state is not paying the rebates that it did and they have to start charging more (they said that it may happen, pretty soon).

In any case, if you can afford a down payment like that, I would do it.

Chris

It seems like I read in an email that the wu's ending in 6.42 are using a new digital signature. The night that I looked, all of my wu's ended in 6.42. Looking now, all but one is ending in 6.40 and one ending in 6.41.
Weird....

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

I downloaded an HCC WU (at least one and probably a bunch more) so I will see what happens. Thanks for the info. Do you think any other active projects are in the same shape so their processing time could be improved by such changes?

Perhaps I misunderstood what was recompiled. It looks like all other projects I looked at (faah and dddt2) are at the 6.40 level. The level seems to be associated with BOINC. Are there recompiles being done, or could be done, for parts of other projects that might improve performance?

The numbers game is a bit complicated. These numbers are not Boinc numbers. 6.40 was a compile that was run on windows. There is also a 6.40 for Linux based machines. When they decided to see if they could improve HCC, the built a beta and called it 6.41 but it was buggy. They fixed the bugs and came out with 6.42. Linux is still running on 6.40 (which by the way is very efficient..perhaps even a bit more efficient than 6.42...but who knows for sure). I am not surprised that there is a stray 6.40 or 6.41 WU now and then as they are likely trying to get all of the older WUs validated.

Now your question about can they recompile some of the other projects and make them more efficient...I asked that very question a couple of weeks back over in the Beta Test HCC 6.42 thread and got no response whatsoever. I would non-the-less bet that it has crossed their minds and it is on some "Check and see if we can do this list" somewhere. smile

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 49smilesmile

Looks like everyone must have been bothered by missing our Results record by just 18 WU yesterday. wink We beat it today....with about 450 WU to spare. WOW!

Dr. Mike's points went back up today so that's a good sign. Still worried but feel better.

I'd love to get our thread back to where it was in the past with regular posts from folks all over and often enough that I had to start a new thread each month. We're closer to that now but still have room for more.

Another good thing is that about two-thirds of the team is doing under 10K points a day. It's easy to get drop-jawed on some of big numbers a few folks put up but we can't lose sight of how the work of so many adds up to a lot. Everyone is great about doing what they can and that's the best thing about this team. So...everyone give yourself a pat on the back!!
