Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 48smilesmile

real cold here.. (for me..) not much snow.. plenty of ice.. not fun to drive in keith!

Mike..

I can relate. biggrin We're running in the teens at night and flirting with freezing in the afternoon. Wind was wicked yesterday. Very little of the seven inches on the ground is gone but the sun's finally out and melting what's on the roof and what I hadn't yet gotten to on the driveway. Need to empty out my truck bed too. Had held off on that for the extra weight on the back while the roads were bad. That's the thing with working at a hospital - you don't get off for bad weather. Took my wife to work on Monday afternoon while the snow/ice/freezing drizzle had ended but the "granny gear" (low 4 wheel) did fine (got her back home yesterday). Looks like I finally got something for my tax dollars too - actually saw a plow come down my street yesterday - not the kind on a gravel/sand truck, the kind on a BIG grader. County made the local news Tuesday about how they had deployed plows to different parts of the county before the storm hit and then got to work once the storm ended. The main road into town was clean yesterday and the little side roads got increasingly better (as is typical) as I got closer to the main road. Will be interesting to see how they look today. In past snow/ice storms, we've gotten sand/gravel on our street after they've done the rest and and get to us. Still, we clearly have some smart folks in the county roads dept. here.

Oooh! Another nice big round milestone! Nice work Darth.

Thanks, Keith. I'm looking for to the next "round" milestone. This got me thinking about DKT's comment the other day. Maybe a simple change to the WU milestones report would be

"darth_vader has returned 10,000 results" or
"darth_vader has reached 10,000 results"

which would bypass the whole "their" ambiguity.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 48smilesmile

Interesting. Why did I do that one different from points and runtime? Both of those have "reached X points/years". Let's see how making results the same way looks. At least it will be consistent. biggrin

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 48smilesmile

I see that the Air Force is less than four million points behind the Navy now so we may see parmesian back later this month.

yes, i will be back by the end of the month. U.S.Air Force is less than 4M behind US Navy and less than 10M behind USMC. One of the big dogs on the team Hypernova just got back from holiday and is adding around 300,000 points a day. The navy will be sunk by Wednesday and the marines will join them in another week. Then I will return home trusting the flyboys can Aim High without me. I'm looking forward to my signature returning to MyOnlineTeam (plus, seeing the daily stats and not seeing my name on it is killing me).

as an aside, I have an old server (we replaced it for some reason) and I want to run ubuntu on it from a flash drive (I don't want to screw up the windows server install). I can get it to run from the flash drive, but I can't get boinc to install to save my life. I don't know enough about terminal or linux to figure it out. any of you linux guys want to help a fellow out?

coffee coffee coffee Good Morning MOT coffee coffee coffee
Hum... I have four machines running Ubuntu but I am no expert. I just got them running by fooling around and googling problems till they worked. I have a little machine now that is not contributing very much at the moment (Atom 1.8Ghz) running BOINC/WCG/HCC doing about 4 work units a day. If I get time in the next couple of days, I think I will see if I can get Ubuntu (32bit) to run off of a thumb drive and then see if I can get BOINC running on it. If I can, I will report back and then perhaps, be able to help.

Floods are bad not only is Auz but South America and some places in the Middle East.

Everyone have the absolute best day you can. Life is short!

Keithhenry I agree with you that newer projects receive more points per run time. My dad is a retired navy F-4 pilot so I appreciate Parmesian's work.
