I keep seeing "dkt returned their..." when dkt are the initials for David Keith Thompson and my computers include one I purchased for my son Steven. He uses that machine for either game playing or for photography work. In addition, my wife Lynda uses one machine for email.

The stats I report each day are the output from a program I put together to generate them. Trying to figure them manually just isn't feasible time-wise. As for user names, not only is there no way to know the gender behind it, you can't even be certain it is an individual. While it can seem awkward at times, I tend to refer to users in the third person as it is more gender neutral unless I know otherwise. Some folks are particular ( that's not to imply anything negative either) about their names and/or gender. It seems more respectful (and perhaps safer) to not make presumptions. Personally, I'm happy when folks call me anything that can be repeated in mixed company.  I had a friend in the past that called me Neil. I'd answer to that from him too (confused the daylights out of folks). Of course, I wasn't about to argue with a rather husky ex-Army Ranger either.  Also, there are many folks who tend to keep the info pretty private when it comes to their Internet presence out for concern for security. I think that folks crunching here at WCG with multiple machines that are used by/belong to other family members is pretty common. The quad I have crunching is actually my daughter's desktop. So, yes, you'll be referred to by your username in the stats here but you'll probably see other posts referring to you as David now. I'm Keith but, as you can see, I'm flexible on that too.  I think the main thing is that we're glad to have you here as part of our team and, while we recognize the accomplishments of our members, that in no way is meant to take anything away from their accomplishments before or after their time with us. We're all here to do what we can to help in the fight against disease. |
