Re: HCC with GPU

This may be of interest to my fellow crunchers:

Prime Grid tasks processed with HD 6570 GPU: 3.48h;
with HD 6790 GPU :1.55h

C'mon, HCC: I'm ready!

Prime Grid tasks processed with HD 5870 GPU: 44mins

Re: HCC with GPU

I have two Radeon HD 6850s, a Radeon HD 4870, and two Radeon HD 7950s ready to go for this project, it's time to feed these hungry beasts before things get nasty.

Radeon HD 7950 running MilkyWay@Home OpenCL client @ 100% utilization is 45 seconds per work unit. Estimated AMD GPU GFLOP/s: 3942 SP GFLOP/s, 986 DP FLOP/s per 7950. Meanwhile, I have them crunching for bitcoins at 540Mhash/s each to earn a little money on the side.

The guess is that since Knreed is off until April there will be no more gpu until he gets back. As I said just a guess.

What other projects are your gpu's on while waiting? I have mine on MilkyWay, PrimeGrid, Moo and Poem right now. I keep Collatz as my backup project.

Hi,

I am processing POEM and Prime Grid until HCC comes online. Once HCC is up, I will drop Prime Grid.

Re: HCC with GPU

They are only running running the DiabloMiner at the MtRed mining pool. 7950s get 540Mhash, 6850s get 210 Mhash/s, and 4870 can only manage a measly 80 Mhash/s, but still destroys the GTX 580 which is only capable of 112 Mhash/s, which is really sad and not worthy of the electrical cost. Make a little over 1 bitcoin a day, so that's about 5$, graphics cards will eventually pay themselves off by the end of the year.

CPUs are worthless at these calculations, which is why I do World Community Grid on my CPUs. Looking at the effect graphics cards have had on PrimeGrid

Can you guess when GPU support was added? 5 years of CPU time, and it only took the GPUs one month to do all that.

But even if I wanted to do actual GPU projects I cannot with my 7950s. Most projects here on BOINC and Folding@Home are still slinging that deprecated CAL standard, and 7xxx cards don't speak CAL, they speak OpenCL, so only MilkyWay@Home and POEM@Home will talk to my cards.

Lol, after some modifications with app_info.xml and a bump of the memory speed I can complete one primegrid unit in exactly 40.5 seconds, for about 4266.66 work units in a day, equaling 682,000 PPD for my two 7950s.

Folding@Home uses OpenCL for Ati/Amd, but granted you'll possibly still needed to fool-around trying to find out how to enable the GPU-beta-"core" in the v7-FAH-beta-clients. If it is worth it is another matter, since FAH on Ati is AFAIK still crap, even they've had GPU-application since 2006...

POEM@home and SETI@home is two BOINC-projects that also uses OpenCL for Ati/AMD.

There is no "GPU help conquer cancer" option, as of yet

He 'photoshopped' the page! It is fake and one persons idea of how to do it, it is NOT anything but that at this point.

Re: HCC with GPU

That way there is no need for the extra graphics option.
The way I've shown it you could run one or the other or both... wink

@tomast, so you managed to confuse another. Plz put a text on your screenshot to say "Concept".

And this revival popping up, implicitly by selecting HCC GPU you've indicated to Beta testing the HCC GPU project, but as it is, what if there is a new project, GPU only or another being ported to from CPU to GPU? Still need that "If there is GPU work..." somewhere. Think a 2 column tick box would be more elegant, and keep the page length in check.
