I want to use my AMD gpus to crunch medical projects. Hopefully WCG can get gpu app released soon, because Poem@home doesn't work at all with my pc's. Tried 7.0x or newer versions and none would start(no boincmanager window or anything). Tried xp 32bit and win7 64 bit fresh installs in 3 different pc's and same issues.

Learn Italian, here a link to a manual by one of our team members, how to set up POEM for ATI/AMD.
http://www.boincitaly.org/articoli/guide/1796...lelaborazione-su-gpu.html Probably Google translate will make it half way understandable, the xml file hacking the most challenging part. --//-- |

Well have to wait untill 7.xx boinc is released after beta tests. Too bad i have 4 amd gpus and 1 nvidia for crunching :( Hi: what a pain. Normally I would not use a BOINC version before being fully tested. In this case I was so frustrated by not being able to run POEM asks with GPU, I took a risk. I removed BOINC 6.x.x from one PC, deleted all the files containing BOINC, installed the BOINC 7.x.x and ran it without a problem. POEM tasks with GPU run for a l-o-n-g time. ![]() crunching, crunching, crunching. AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-core Processor with Windows 11 64 Pro. Just a guess here, but since BOINC 7.x.x is required by POEM in order to run OpenCL applications, and the WCG GPU app is supposed to be for OpenCL, I suspect that BOINC 7.x.x will be needed for the WCG app as well. Perhaps WCG is waiting for a stable version of BOINC 7.x.x. to be issued.

@John: How long is l-o-n-g?
The longest I've seen for a Poem GPU task is around 6 hours for the AMD integrated graphics; discrete graphics cards seem to be in the 20-60 minutes range. But it is possible to 'choke' the GPU by having too high CPU load, the GPU needs some reserved CPU in order to run. Boinc doesn't always handle this correctly, so you could end up with one CPU task per core and less than 1% utilization of the GPU. What you need is one CPU core dedicated to the GPU task. |

Are you currently using it here at WCG? What other Boinc Projects have you tried and found it working, or not working at? I would like to do Poem in the near future but if version 7.*.* ONLY works at Poem that won't work for me. ![]() ![]() |

EDIT: I realized you were talking about the BOINC version lol. I've been using version 7.0.11 for a week or two here at WCG without any issues whatsoever. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by Falconet at Jan 29, 2012 7:56:40 PM] |

Been using BOINC 7.0.2 with no problem here on HCMD2 and GFAM for over 5 weeks now.
----------------------------------------The changed work fetch policy of BOINC 7.0.2 plus the current trickle feed of GPU tasks from the POEM server causes a minor glitch. To try and keep some POEM work on hand I use a high "Connect about every" setting that often results in all WCG CPU and POEM GPU tasks running in High Priority mode. Other than that everything works fine. Edit: I just reduced "Connect about every" to 3 days and tasks have stopped running in High Priority mode plus POEM tasks are still being requested. Much better. [Edit 1 times, last edit by kashie at Jan 29, 2012 7:56:20 PM] |

That setting will only have it reporting completed work every three days, no wonder you were getting "high priority" messages on units! Better to put that back to default. Your work cache is a different setting and safe to run out to three days.
