Re: HCC with GPU

There is the ASUS M4A88T-M motherboard that has an integrated AMD-class HD 4250 graphics. In Ubuntu_v11.10, my BOINC_v6.12.33 reports "No usable GPUs found" using the motherboard. My bet is that the Intel camp's graphics capability in any form (CPU-integrated, motherboard-integrated, or discreet) will be blown out of the water by AMD-class graphics capability in any form (CPU-integrated, motheboard-integrated, or discreet). But all that remains to be seen... Hint, hint, WCG staff... are we in line with the GPU plans so far? The troops are itching for some action on the WCG GPU-computing battlefront. ;-)

Re: HCC with GPU

Is there any idea when testing is going to commence?

Here's a link on what it takes to get BOINC to recognize AMD cards under Ubuntu and similar:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6307&sort=5

I don't know whether your integrated HD4250 will work even after that, but I got "no usable GPUs found" on my machines with the E-350 until I did the steps 1 and 2 mentioned at that link. And I do still have to manually restart BOINC every time I reboot...

I have not seen an announcement yet and await such with much anticipation. Crunching many other tasks in the meantime.

Re: HCC with GPU

Well, I thought we were on the final push, so I brought some hardware online that isn't sustainable for me in the long term. Since there's no way of us knowing how long this will be I'll have to back off a little.
No hard feelings, I know that's just how things are with releasing new clients etc. I'm still up for whatever Beta work I can grab when it comes.

Thanks for the link, kateiacy! I'll try to wrap my head around the ideas discussed there for now and we'll see if, later, those ideas would wrap around my head smile.

Re: HCC with GPU

hmmm... interesting stuff here!! :)
I'm looking forward GPU-Apps for WCG for quite some time.
Collatz is nice points-digging but not that useful than WCG :)
This might be another good reason to upgrade my card during this year... depending on what gen' and driver are supported :)
I hope not to miss the beta ones ;)
Btw, I'll hit my 30yr runtime at the next update :)
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) 29:359:07:19:35 *like* :)

Congratulations on your achievement!! I, too eagerly await the HCC GPU application and hope other humanitarian research projects adopt GPU/APU applications.
