I've run into 385MB limits while playing around with different projects while others just refuse to work with my cards. I know they're older and/or low end cards, don't get me wrong, I just hope that when GPU work comes here the errors produced if the cards don't meet the requirements actually say so without being obscure about it.

Usually you can't even get work units, it gives an error message and won't download any units at all. Albert limits the gpu to 500mb free memory, that is AFTER the OS takes its part, so a 512mb card may not work! That's the error message I'm referring to. If it at least comes up and says the card has insufficient memory it's enough to work out what's going on. Some projects don't give even that much, they just refuse to download work.

Well we'll find out soon enough. There's still a few more weeks of January left to go.

January of 2012 has been mentioned a few times by people summarizing something they read. Early 2012 has been the official line from the beginning. It's human nature to "remember" things the way we want them to go.
----------------------------------------Feel free to prove me wrong because it would indicate sooner than later and would make me happier. Besides, early 2012 is much more consistent with official communications. Nothing too specific and if they hit January after all it's even better. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 [Edit 1 times, last edit by KWSN - A Shrubbery at Jan 5, 2012 5:57:44 AM] |

Slacker: under-promise, and under-deliver.
Hype: over-promise, and under-deliver. Good: under-promise, and over-deliver. Only-in-Neptune: over-promise, and over-deliver. Conservative: under-promise, and right-deliver. Advertisement/dream-world: over-promise, and right-deliver. Sweet-spot: right-promise, and right-deliver. Acceptable/real-world: right-promise, and under-deliver. The few, the proud, the Marines: right-promise, and over-deliver. Where WCG threaded the GPU is anyone's guess. Only time will tell. Nonetheless, where the reference is situated (so we can say under, over, or right at that reference) should make any answer obscured by smoke, shadows, and reflections. ; |

Well after a few days letting my meager GPUs (an 8600GT and a G100) run PrimeGrid, I'm returning DOUBLE the BOINC credit from them than I am from all my CPUs combined. While those points are amusing, it's not the kind of work I really want to do and those cards are nowhere near good enough for the likes of GPUgrid, so I'm hoping when the HCC GPU tasks land they're light on resources.
----------------------------------------Of course we'll get what we're given ... but I'm hoping. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

No team? Don't be shy picking one. I could recommend a couple but that could come across as self serving.
