Dataman, have you got your Checkpoint flag set - and if so, is there any evidence of it checkpointing?

No but it restarted at 2 hours so that appears to be the last one it reconized. I'm headed out and will see where it is when I return. This was not exactly on my schedule for this morning ... interesting though. Cheers!

Dataman, if you do decide to add in that flag, it's a very quick and easy thing to do - as it's in the cc_config.xml file held within your BOINC directory (this file can be edited with a simple text editor such as Notepad whilst BOINC is running, and then simply 'reread again' from the Advance | Read Config File from your BOINC manager).
----------------------------------------Anyhow, the relevant changes are; <cc_config> <log_flags> <checkpoint_debug>1</checkpoint_debug> </log_flags> </cc_config> |

Just FYI on what BOINC is measuring regarding download bandwidth. I had made the assumption that it was measuring files it downloaded. I can now state that this is not true. It is measuring every interaction it has with the project, even the simple handshakes. Take a look at this log (edited to shorten the lines for readability, but no lines removed):
22/09/2010 16:37:32|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 22/09/2010 16:37:43|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks 22/09/2010 16:37:43|Message from server: No work sent 22/09/2010 16:37:43|Message from server: No work is available for DDT2 22/09/2010 16:37:43|Message from server: No work is available for DDT2 (Type A) 22/09/2010 16:37:43|Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. 22/09/2010 16:37:53||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 22/09/2010 16:37:56||Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. 22/09/2010 16:38:47|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Message from server: No work sent 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Message from server: No work is available for DDT2 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Message from server: No work is available for DDT2 (Type A) 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Message from server: Beta - CEP2 requires 128.00 kbps download bandwidth. Your computer has been measured at 126.17 kbps. 22/09/2010 16:38:58|Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. So a project communication failure and a check of the reference site was sufficient "download" activity to drop this machine's bandwidth from above 128kbps to 126.17kbps. I would therefore suggest that, if anyone is in contact with the BOINC folks and thinks that another project might want to use download bandwidth in the same way that WCG was considering, you might want to suggest that this area needs looking at again. (Always assuming that things have not changed in any release later than the current WCG recommended release (6.2.28), which is what I'm using.) |

Over the course of 5 minutes I hit update 5 times, even unplugged the wifi and reseated to force error and the last time after increasing the cache for a little to fetch a C4CW task, which is a file-transfer-less event. Here are the client_state values (6.10.58):
----------------------------------------<bwdown>803554.725176</bwdown> <bwdown>803554.725176</bwdown> <bwdown>803554.725176</bwdown> <bwdown>803554.725176</bwdown> <bwdown>803554.725176</bwdown> Each time the file editor messaged that the client_state.xml file had rewritten and changed from last time loading into the file editor, so reloaded. FWIW I got 4 betas on my quad (2 sets of 2). Completion times seem short compared to other reports,, from 3.9 to 6.5 hrs. One is left which is approaching 6.5 hours. (2.66 GHz Q9450, Windows XP)
The 3 that have completed are in PV but at least got no errors. Not seeing any more, is this run exhausted? |

Not seeing any more, is this run exhausted? After just returning 1, I'm not seeing anymore - which, actually is fine by me, as otherwise, I'd be getting to the point of slipping out of the reliability rating (due to returning WU's later than 2 days). No doubt, the next round of Beta testing won't be that far off |

That looks pretty conclusive, Sek. So, maybe the work to qualify a more recent BOINC level with WCG will be worthwhile!
Thanks for checking that out. It makes me feel better. |

I came home and found 11 more in cache on my 3 Windows machines. The message logs say they came in 1 at a time between 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM EST. Wish now I hadn't switched some machines back to Linux.
