Okay, zooming on an ethernet wire, the boss not pleased. Can´T get the WIFI to work, with or without any form of security, it keeps ad infinitum asking to enter the password or cycle through connect attempts. Bluetooth working too, even connected to the cell, so that part is hunky dory, and wow, the 9 year old bluetooth printer connection works too, which it does not under W7-64 [no longer supported by HP /o\]
----------------------------------------Now for the jobs... HFCC, going with a target completion of 3:45 hours... that competes awfully well with W7-64 The benchmark for whetstone is identical to that under windows, but the dhrystone/integer is ... double W7-64 and in high expectation of what HCC is going to do next... once the daily initial quota of 5 per core has been worked off. More later

Think I landed myself into a Hackaton... found in the Ubuntu Software Center, was already closing in on the RALINK drivers that were hacked into W7 :D

No wireless, nop, though the WIFI router says it's been connected to the hosts for hours, the host wont have it. The cable has been rolled up before someone stumbles, the purpose of doing this exersize hands on to see how HFCC and HCC would do. They're screaming through on 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04, so much so that the HCC tasks on W7-64 used to run under the latest version between 145-160 minutes. Now... drums rolling 64 minutes!

Running client 6.10.17 as it came with the distro and after some sudo root pwd chown chattr and hacking the etc/boinc-client folder to get my old parms into cc_config.xml remote_hosts.cfg andf gui-rpc-auth.cfg, it's as if nothing changed, but the execution speed of the tasks. BOINCTasks is connecting well from the laptop and controlling the client. Yawn... bed time after all that excitement, pipe-dreaming about the double credit, how else are we going to show doubled TFL ;o)

PS, think there was a sudo bash in there too, but the RTFmanual says it should not be used lightly...

Sek,
Not sure what to say about wifi...Usually when building a machine i make sure that all the parts are linux (part of my requirements to make my life easier). But have you tried connecting on another frequency like G or A? -Uplinger |

So how do these babies compare to your fastest, not that I´m particularly exited about credit rules [for which we all deny ourselves the truth is what co-drives such effort] @Uplinger, N is just soooo much faster and getting any device to talk in G to the router would pull the whole network down from 270Mhz to not even 54Mhz. I had on an old Hardy Heron test the G working alright, on a G router. I´ll give it a go maybe later today... the errant list is brutal.

So how do these babies compare to your fastest, not that I´m particularly exited about credit rules [for which we all deny ourselves the truth is what co-drives such effort] OK, I have just made a fresh extract from BOINC's jobs log:HCC:Personally, what drives me more is first the number of WUs, otherwise I would probably be still under XP 32 bits! And second it is achieving some levels of badges, hence my currently doing some HFCC although its WUs are much too long and poorly crediting under Linux. ![]() Edit: My HCC average is very stable. It is the third time I am posting such numbers, and every time the average is 0.85! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Apr 26, 2010 8:00:52 AM] |

Well the progress on G is, no G, no A, No B. The device is seen, it asks about 5 times for the WAP-PSK2 password, in fact when typing the password it already knows it correct as only then does the OK button activate. Even pulled a known working G only USB wireless stick and it wont work... same experience... the router sees the client, but is not passing the handshake to commence data transmission. Think I'll dig further into the RALINK 2870 driver stuff and the ndiswrapper tool to incorporate the windows driver, but that's on that same steep curve as the last 700 hundred meters to our front porch.
----------------------------------------As to work, HPF2 successful, albeit only one job. Runtime about same as windows. HCC 15 valid of first 15 completed... gottah love these just running ~1:06 - ~1:20 hours. HFCC seems to be somewhat faster than on windows, though what can one say if even the laptop does them in 2:30 hours presently, then the next in 14. FAAH and HCMD2 next up on the test bed. Mind you, the responsiveness feel is substantially better in use than 8.04. Now where is the lm-sensor control hidden? The package is default installed, got GKrellM working, fancontrol is there too by design. Need to get that going as the continuous downwind up and down howling of the fans as controlled by the BIOS's saveguardian starts to nerve.
