Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

This conveys a reason :O)

The last weekend attempt failed dismally on all counts with Ubuntu 8.10, so it is just me, of course :(

LOL, I have seen that comic in the past, very good in my mind.

Sek, if you wait until the end of the month, you should be able to download the next LTS version of Ubuntu. 10.04 should be released by end of month. In my mind wait for that then give it another try :)

The final stable version will be released on April 29, 2010. From their website.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Thnks, I looked for the Karmic Koala 64 bit images and stumbled on Lucid Lynx Daily Build. My key issue is not getting the 802.11N to work, cable not an option and downing to 11G is neither. There's a prowler here somewhere at the foot of the hill causing my WLAN to slow down tremendously when the router detects there's a G in the neighborhood thus it's set to only see N. Once I had Hardy Heron 8.10 working on the laptop with G, but thought that was desperately slow to boot to begin with. Wanting to try the 64bit to gain the HCC speed advantage for the most part.

I'll give the LTS a go when it arrives, with the right Ralink drivers [these I had to hack into W7-64 as well]

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

LTS is now in Release canidate. http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/ I am downloading it now to test on 64 bit. Shouldn't be much in changes for the OS in the next week, but all changes should be minor application changes at this point.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

the agent included in ubuntu 10.04 is 6.10.17. I was not able to get the 64 bit version to work since i'm in 32 bit windows :( virtual machine testing. But the boinc agent works with World Community Grid with no additional work by the member other than installing and attaching.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

I'm running the 64bit ubuntu 10.04 at work and could not get the boinc client to work. So what I did was ran boincview using wine and configured my client with that. For some reason that build just crashes when you click the "attach to projects" button.

When I first saw that years ago I decided I wanted to live Steve's life. I've got the Cluster of Supermen, and Henchmen, so now I need the Fembots and the rocket chair! It's just so easy!!

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Plodding whilst the Lucid Lynx 10.04 RC is downloading. May have found a workaround to get passed the BOOT ERROR from USB stick:

http://blog.programmerslog.com/?p=383

It's an 8GB stick so:

mkdiskimage -4 /dev/sdX 0 255 63

Here's hoping this ReadyBoost doubling pen drive will continue to function in that role after booting back into Windows.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Almost there with RC Lucid Lynx 10.04, but some hurdles to take:

WIFI 802-11N is recognized but refuses to securely/non-secured connect
Now on a 25 meter ethernet cable writing and searching for solutions [think to get slapped over the head soon if not getting this solved soon]

First BOINC messages, would you believe [we know the cc_config.xml option to fix this]

There is a new version 6.10.44 [wonder when thereÅ› not one]
