Sek, it's probably someone who's been greedy and have more Type A's than their computer(s) can cope with - after all, there were a fair bit of 'hovering up' of Beta WU's this time around... What's 'hovering up'? I only got one A wu. They seemed to go out in a flash... |

I suspended all other tasks to let all the cores crunch just this one WU and it has moved along some. WCG has no multi-threaded applications i.e. the projects here only use 1 core each. Patching application is not required to done immediately followed by a reboot. Sometimes I do not allow reboot for days. Just will pop up a reminder that patches are ready to be applied from pre-download (W7).

Yes, I know they're not multi-threaded. On this slow of a pc though, if the other 3 threads are working on other WU's, the beta really crawls slowly. It's not a bonic thing, more with the OS allocation of CPU resources and memory requirements. On my faster machines, suspending other tasks has little to no affect. This one is slow and picky though.

[kind of ot] I just put an FAAH job with an affinity of core 2 (3rd core-thread), to let it have mx CPU time for a test I'm doing. In wallclock, jobs finish about 15-30 minutes faster this way, particular when using the PC for work or listening radio, wich app is now assigned to core 0. For a while I used Process Lasso to automate that, to assign faah/hfcc to core 1,2,3, never 0 but that fell on a quirk... if you have 4 running of same, it will move 2 BOINC jobs on 1 core, then them running at half speed (getting half of the cycles). BOINC is not absolute insistent on 1 per core, which in a way is good.
----------------------------------------And as the rule goes, the more RAM allowed to BOINC, the less it will have to disk i/o, optimized weekly with Auslogic disk defragger. [/kind of ot]

If anyone with one of these percentage issue work units can capture information for me that would be wonderful. The information is in the BOINC Data directory, under slots and some number. There should be a file in one of the directories called result.out. If you want, you can copy and paste that entire directory to your desktop, then zip the directory and send it to support@worldcommunitygrid.org Please remember, to COPY and PASTE, this will allow you to zip up the directory without needing to shut down BOINC. If you're in windows, to zip the directory, right click and then send to -> compressed folder. Thanks, -Uplinger Are you going to send a server abort on these units that start over and over? Mine is at 4 days 16+ hours. I can't believe it, I think it accually finished! And it's valid? Wow! 131.68 hours! Greetings,
We are still investigating the issue. If you still have the directory on your machine of the slots directory. Could you please email me the wcg_cep1.state file from the directory? (support@worldcommunitygrid.org) Thanks, -Uplinger |
