Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The May 2014 result is in and the average temperature from 2438 NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 16.664C

The average temperature June 2013 through to the end of May 2014 was 12.325C

Here's another forum friendly sized graph that updates hourly

The graphs above are (at this moment in time) the result of 74,966,802 individual temperature measurements taken around the Globe from (the same set of) NOAA Weather Stations since the beginning of 2011 cool

During that time the public facing servers have added, as a secondary task to their primary purpose, over 11.5 Million WCG Points or about 8,237,030,000,000 floating point calculations to further the research assisted here by IBM by consuming (all fans blowing) 3588 KWh of electricity creating 538Kg of CO2 Gas taken back up by plant and algal growth around the Planet forming the source of the food chain.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

A tale of two narratives

I found this quite interesting. There are two narratives: "Helpless innocent Walrus Youth decimated by greedy Polar Bears", and "Helpless exhausted Polar Bear starving to death due to climate change". Each has a video to go with the narrative. But it is obvious that with minor narrative changes the videos could be swapped.

There could even be a third narrative: "Helpless innocent Walrus Youth decimated by helpless starving Polar Bears, both victims of climate change.". (Except of course the walrus is not currently a charismatic mega-fauna. A soft drink ad campaign would be necessary.)

The power of propaganda.

Harriscott I'd didn't need to watch the video's to know the answer to the question proposed by Anthony Watts

"Has David Attenborough Become A Propaganda Mouthpiece Promoting Climate Fear?"

Like Mr Watts I have been brought up on a diet of Wildlife programmes created by Richard. They used to be informative, enjoyable and superbly filmed until they ended up making every programme like a disaster movie of doom and gloom.

All you need to know about David Attenborough is this

http://www.populationmatters.org/attenborough-talk/

http://www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/2...-optimum-population-trust

http://www.populationmatters.org/about/people/patrons/

Knowing he holds this view of Mankind......

note : Population Matters was previously known at The Optimum Population Trust (isn't PR great)

I have written in this thread before about Population it will peak this century and then decline. We are already seeing the rate of increase slow. Without Children we are only 120 ish years tops from being extinct as a species no matter how many of us there are alive today. I hold the opposite opinion to Mr Attenborough and the World Community Grid bears witness to this view.

Dave

p.s. Mum is one of 11 Children. I am 1 of 3 Children, I have 2 Daughters

Current UK birth rate below 2. Many countries are the same. Human Population will inevitably decline,

Think of the predictions Al Gore made post Katrina backed by settled "peer reviewed" science supported by 97% of Climate Scientists.

Now have a look at the graph below.

Any "civilian" place requiring that much razor wire and armed police constantly patrolling clearly shouldn't exist. This nuclear legacy is a huge stain on our Nation

The hills and mountains in the distance rise up above Wast Water - the beginning of the idyllic Lake District.

I'm sorry, I had to go see it for myself. The plaque is about a foot square.

Thankfully the armed police didn't shoot that guy with tears in his eyes.

Symbolically combining two threads into one

Windscale

The toadstool towers infest the shore:
Stink-horns that propagate and spore
Wherever the wind blows.
Scafell looks down from the bracken band,
And sees hell in a grain of sand,
And feels the canker itch between his toes.

This is a land where dirt is clean,
And poison pasture, quick and green,
And storm sky, bright and bare;
Where sewers flow with milk, and meat
Is carved up for the fire to eat,
And children suffocate in God's fresh air.

Norman Nicholson, Lakeland poet, 1914 - 87.
