Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius: Only 500 days left to save the planet
... very important issues, issue of climate change, climate chaos. And we have, as I said, we have 500 days to avoid climate chaos. And I know that President Obama and John Kerry himself are committed on this subject and I'm sure that with them, with a lot of other friends, we shall be able to reach success on this very important matter.
I'll be charitable and assume his implication that Syria, Iran and Ukraine aren't very important was just a language misunderstanding.

Being cynical I wonder if "500 days" is more an electoral than a climatic issue. But I like the number. It means in just two years we can determine whether or not this consensus prediction is correct.

Utter Hogwash

Never have we been knowingly sitting on such abundant fossil fuel resources as we do today in the UK

The ability to extract Fossil Fuel resources maybe

But we know why that is

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysect...r-than-first-thought.html

incidentally 300 trillion cubic feet of gas would supply the UK with 2011 levels of consumption for 105,318 years 2 months 19 days 2 hours 25 mins and 52 seconds

So no need to panic just yet

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Stuart Lee did a brilliant counter to this in his Comedy Show

We Brit's are multinational, we have always had visitors who stayed (It's a beautiful place) and this is our rich inheritance.

The same for the USA

His riposte went something like "You Beaker People coming over here from the Iberian Peninsula, with your fancy drinking utensils. What's wrong with lapping up water with your hands?" etc etc etc throughout history was a joy to behold.

This thread is about daft policies to the detriment of us all and politicised science (small s) promoted by charlatans (a lovely word we, the Brits, have adopted from the French, who borrowed it off the Spanish, which can be traced back to the Italians biggrin)

Make it a great day

Dave

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

NOAA are learning

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/outlooks/hurricane.shtml

NOAA’s 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook indicates that a near-normal or below-normal hurricane season is likely this year.

Based on the current and expected conditions, combined with model forecasts, we estimate a 70% probability for each of the following ranges of activity during 2014:

8-13 Named Storms
3-6 Hurricanes
1-2 Major Hurricanes
Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) range of 40%-100% of the median.
The seasonal activity is expected to fall within these ranges in 70% of seasons with similar climate conditions and uncertainties to those expected this year. These ranges do not represent the total possible ranges of activity seen in past similar years.

These expected ranges are centered below the official NHC 1981-2010 seasonal averages of 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.

Al will not be pleased as the atmosphere now contains 0.04013% CO2 as recorded at Mauna Loa which is 0.001883% more than is was in 2005

Let's put it this way ...someone isn't right.

Exactly Soong biggrin

"in this writer's opinion I have to say that the people who wrote it betray a baffling ignorance of the subject under discussion."

That is a nice way of putting it. wink

Here's a great Youtube

Love the "in 40 years Climate Change will have run it's course"

meaning the jig will be up way before then
