Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

It is and the true story is being brushed under the carpet

There are 3 meltdowns with no idea where the 3 coriums are or what might happen next to them

Then there's a forth unstable building with a whole reactors worth of fuel rods still up at the top of what is left the building. Critically is reached by bring these fuel rods together, that's all you have to do, and they are in a unstable pool of water in a seismically active area

On site they have tank after tank of water containing radioactive isotopes.

There is an exclusion zone around the plant and 156,000 people no longer live in their own homes

Radioactive Isotopes have entered the atmosphere, groundwater and the sea.

That is just telling like it is with no claims to the numbers of Cancers that will be the inevitable result

But My Government wants to get Hinkley Point C built as soon as possible with support by £Billions of Tax Payers Money to produce Electricity at twice the cost as the alternatives which will create yet more radioactive waste we have nowhere to store except above ground and this assumes the plant works perfectly for the next 40 years and doesn't do a Chernobyl, Fukashima, Windscale, SL-1, 3 Mile Island.

The justification .... it doesn't produce CO2

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinkley_Point_C_nuclear_power_station

Now tell me that's not insane

Well here is the terror too !
as well is "fracking" ;a technology using a lot of water and endangering drinking water reserves.
also dangerous and hazardous if they use propane gas to extract the shale gas.
So many valuable lands ruined in the USA for shale gas industry. And they are a large country ! what a damage that will be in our backyard small country like England and France
What an absurdity! always greedy consuming. "La fuite en avant"!!!
Save energy, adapt consumption, quit the short-sigth way of life.

Alged I'm not against efficiency
LEDs A++ white goods led TV
When choosing tech I always visit sust-it.net
Car gets over 50mpg

All of these things are good

But for heating cooking and transport there's a certain calorific value that needs a certain quantity of resource
Why would you extract methane with propane? That's a negative sum like the fusion reactors

Not sure how our water supply is affected by drilling down 10,000ft to reach this valuable resource.

Less polluting than Coal. Less hazardous in its extraction than Coal Smaller footprint than any kind of mining. A complete lack of fission products. Incredibly controllable in its utilisation. If anything goes wrong with your power station you just turn the off tap and walk away. You don't have to evacuate people for miles around.

This resource will allow the ingenuity of mankind to continue to improve efficiency and continue to better future.

Just think of the rate of progress we have seen over the last 100 years in every aspect of our lives. Without the power to drive that progress we wouldn't be here considering how we might go on to create a better future

Dave

Must admit I wasn't expecting this

Snow cover Northern Hemisphere for Jan 2014 46,033,000 sq kms
Average 46,866,000 sq kms
832,000 sq kms less than normal

Ranked 39th out of the last 48 years

See http://climate.rutgers.edu/snowcover/table_rankings.php?ui_set=1#namgnld
