What the heck in this life is more important than children growing up in this upside down world? Uh, uh I know....giving that child the best opportunity it can get! Making life as good as it can be, given all the varied circumstances of health, wealth, family, where it is born, etc, etc, etc! After all that child may one day be the Ruler of the World and have a say in how our own lives are run! Of course they could also turn out to be another Hitler or Idi Amin and end up ending the lives of millions of people, such is life and all we as parents can do is do our best and then let the child take it from there! *edited by ErikaT for profanity ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by ErikaT at Oct 15, 2009 12:22:19 PM] |

Cool talking of furry animals I have been inspired by my Cat Ginger Fling to make this - see below
----------------------------------------Ginger Fling is obsessed with Autumn Leaves not sure if it is down to the colour (as they match her own) or the noise they make, but whereas other cats will bring you beheaded small rodants or de-feathered birds as a gift the Fling will bring you Autumn leaves - even in spring! My personal situation is best described at the moment as "evolving" and I was missing the Ginger one (At least I know she is missing me ) and the other day the wind blew the leaf in the centre of the shot through my bedroom window...I'm going to title it - "Carbon Capture" by David Autumns ![]() If you would like to download "Carbon Capture" in all it's multi-mega-pixelled glory Click here http://www.wcgwiki.org/images/carboncapture.jpg Yours Dave "I will be OK one day, don't worry" Autumns ![]() |

I expect it to worse than last year on account of the continued inactivity of our local star Yes, it sure is inactive, isn't it?http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/pickoftheweek/old/09oct2009/ larger graphic and movies available The twin STEREO spacecraft (called "Behind" and "Ahead" denoting their relative positions in space), now almost 120 degrees apart, captured this large and dramatic prominence eruption over about a 30-hour period between Sept. 26-27, 2009. Prominences, called filaments when they are viewed against the surface of the Sun, are clouds of cooler gas suspended above the Sun's surface by magnetic forces. This erupting prominence was large enough that both spacecraft were able to observe it for hours on end, one of the first times that has occurred. From the Behind perspective (on left) the long filament, darker than the Sun's surface, can be seen rising up and then breaking away, spreading out above most of the Sun's surface. As seen from the Ahead spacecraft (right), the filament is seen in profile and is therefore called a prominence. The very large cloud lifts up, breaks away, and heads out into space. This is one of the most spectacular eruptive prominences either SOHO or STEREO have observed. We should note that scientists were interested to observe that the side (Ahead) view confirms that the prominence heads from high solar latitudes to near the solar equator, which is what we expect from the usual shape of the extended solar magnetic field at solar minimum. However, it has taken years longer than usual for the field to relax in this cycle

A little math on NASA Global temps, 29% land 71% Sea/Ocean, and the prediction at the beginning of the year that we see (those that can) breaking new records, and so it did. 4 Months mean June-September, top 10 years since start of records in 1880, all in Celsius anomaly from normal mean 1961-1990.
----------------------------------------1991 0,438 (10) 1998 0,605 (2) 2001 0,473 (8) 2002 0,493 (7) 2003 0,520 (4) 2005 0,590 (3) 2006 0,518 (6) ex e quo 2007 0,518 (6) ex e quo 2008 0,440 (9) (La Nina trickle out year) 2009 0,610 (1) (weakish El Nino state) Only 2004 is not in the top 10 of all the years in this decade. And that in the continued deepest spotless state of the sun, at least the spots we count.

If you would like to download "Carbon Capture" in all it's multi-mega-pixelled glory Here is my version of "Carbon Capture" David. ![]() I emptied one of my compost bins yesterday and got seven and a half large bags of this lovely stuff from it. I'm not a considered a greenie here too. This stuff will produce loads of lovely grub. |

----------------------------------------State of the Climate Global Analysis September 2009 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Climatic Data Center Global Highlights * The combined global land and ocean surface temperature for September 2009 was 0.62°C (1.12°F) above the 20th Century average of 15.0°C (59.0°F). This was the second warmest September on record, behind 2005, and the 33rd consecutive September with a global temperature above the 20th Century average. The last below-average September occurred in 1976. * The global land surface temperature for September 2009 was 0.97°C (1.75°F) above the 20th Century average of 12.0°C (53.6°F), and ranked as the second warmest September on record, also behind 2005. * The worldwide ocean temperature tied with 2004 as the fifth warmest September on record, 0.50°C (0.90°F) above the 20th Century average of 16.2°C (61.1°F). Warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures were widespread, particularly in lower latitudes. The near-Antarctic southern ocean and the Gulf of Alaska featured notable cooler-than-average temperatures. * For the year to date, the global combined land and ocean surface temperature of 14.7°C (58.5°F) was the sixth-warmest January-through-September period on record. This value is 0.55°C (0.99°F) above the 20th Century average. * A weak El Niño persisted across the equatorial Pacific Ocean during September. Sea surface temperature observations in the equatorial Pacific Ocean during the month remained above average. According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, El Niño is expected to strengthen and last through the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2009-2010. What's going on in Canada?

Snow was late? The Arctic sea ice extent may seem normal, well, except for 2007, the lowest on record, but AREA, the real stuff was 5 days ago over 2 million short from normal... 4.2 million km square instead of 6.3 million km square. I keep asking in vain at the Aint True sites "where's the recovery"? I must say, taking some persistent non-science based laments here, not advisable to go there, for vulture central is nothing by comparison. You'll stand there watching how your own guts are ripped out with the usual talking points "this 7th decimal value is wrong, therefor everything in the science is wrong". They cheer on Dr. Roy when he shows lower numbers than NOAA and in the next thread they throw everything he does out the window. What's new?
----------------------------------------edit: Yes, so predictable... WUWTFBOH has an aritcle up.... its all wrong, everything is wrong... but the SSMI sat matches the AMSE sat that Jaxa uses, so what's wrong? This is... still 2 million km square hard real ice short, below 2008 level, not against a 79-00 base line, no against a '79-06 base line: ![]() Don't know, but how many Belgiums is this shortfall? I will not rest my case.
