Yup, your merchants of doubt at work. Here they are again... the Vikings, who lived at the same latitude on that Southern tip of Greenland as they did in Norway. --//-- Really? Surface currents that sink and feed deep currents carry much more heat toward Europe than currents that stay on the surface. As a result, Norway at 60 degrees is far warmer than southern Greenland and northern Labrador which are at the same latitude. So, do you know what the currents were back then and where the upwellings took place and how they forked? Why only the tip of Greenland was suitable? BTW, people lived then on Iceland too. Oh, David Autumns will be thanking you for eluding on how that Ocean Heat Content (OHC) is rising and these sudden flips of El Nino and La Nina occur... no poof to space of all the surface build up heat. Till next time when done with done ;>) --//-- P.S. Here a page on the Thermohaline... carefully look where one of the red lines is pointing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermohaline_circulation The so-called North Atlantic Deep Water Forming NADW, off-Greenland, is considered the main pump of all of the global circulation. It's been intermittent in recent years. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 20, 2011 5:47:19 PM] |

Why only the tip of Greenland was suitable? You'll have to ask the Vikings. They named it Greenland for a reason. BTW, people lived then on Iceland too. And your point is?

Yes, it's called marketing and political motives. I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. For those who can't read between the lines, political motives trump truth every time. However, truth wins out in the end. Greenland has never been green in the history of humanity except on the coasts. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

You nailed it, Shrubs.
Here for nanoprobe, who likes, like David, to skip the relevant facts and certainly not read beyond the lines he likes... one more time throwing out the CO2 percent in the air of 0.00393%, thoroughly ignoring the physical properties of this molecule and it's response to long wave radiation, then as is known acting as a [forcing]. Anyway, picture this guy, Eric the Red, send away from *Iceland*, peddling west and drifting south at the same time, those currents, and seeing first time in European originated people, a piece of coast land and exclaiming ''Green~land!''. Read the history... it's got lots of cross-links too to supplementals, which peoples lived where and when and what [local] temperatures. There were trees too... they cut them down, not necessarily a good climatic move in such a fragile ambient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Greenland At 09:45AM it was 29C here, humidity 54%, 1019mb, per the permanently shaded digital weather station at 09:45AM. Forecast for hottest hours, 34C. Our regional normal for August is 23C mean. The 21st today, and not a single day below that mean... well above in fact. Just 3 sunspots and first auroras seen at the Arctic circle... the sun is not asleep, just 0,00892446% below 2003 when SORCE had it's near first full year of data. ![]() The sun has been having ever slightly lesser activity since the mid 50's of last century. Since Keeling started in 1958 to measure different gases in the atmosphere, CO2 has risen by 78 ppmv or 25%. Now why was Keeling so driven to find out the annual change [with his today still function gold standard apparatus]... would he have known better than the layman on the sidewalk why CO2 let loose in the air is of grave concern? We're taking the Vespa to the beach, for some cooling... not too long as there's UV warning... still that damaged ozone layer. Taking the Vespa reduces parking space, no searching for a car-park slot, and minimizes the carbon footprint at that. Have a nice day all. --//-- |
