The Chernobyl twist to the fires could be interesting. (from same website)

Though many have been contained, wildfires continue to rage throughout many parts of Russia. In a new twist to the situation, officials have confirmed that some forests that were contaminated with radiation from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster have now burned, but it was unclear what danger the smoke from such wildfires could pose. Monitoring stations have not registered any increase in radioactivity as yet. Recent windy conditions have temporarily cleared the smoke from Moscow's skies, but it could possibly return soon. The area of burning forests in Russia is now 927 sq km (358 sq mi), down from from 1,740 sq km (676 sq m) only 24 hours ago. The economic costs of the fires are now estimated at up to 15 billion dollars.

Absinthe (the green liqueur) is now being distilled again. Some said that the ingredient wormwood caused the 19th century artists drinking it to go bonkers. More likely, from analysis of old bottles, the content was more like 70% alcohol (140 proof).

What does this have to do with anything? The Russian word for wormwood is "Chernobyl".

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The latest from the place claimed by the "We are all doomed" Crew to be warming faster than any place on Earth - the North Pole

The Green line is the average temperature above 80 degrees North over the years 1958 to 2002

The Blue Line is 0 degrees C.

The Red line - so far this year

Just to confuse matters the temps on the graph are in degrees Kelvin which are the same as degrees C with 273.15 added on. 0 Kelvin being Absolute Zero - the theoretical temperature at which entropy would reach its minimum value. For all intents and purposes its the temperature at which molecules stop vibrating.

So the question is

Is it excessively warm around the North Pole?

Make it a great day

Dave

A looming oxygen crisis and its impact on our oceans:

A 2010 study found that oceans are acidifying 10 times faster today than 55 million years ago when a mass extinction of marine species occurred.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Now we can't even trust the Satellite Global temperature record.....

First we have the corruption of the Global Historical Climatology Network GHCN through the selective redundancy of thousands of monitoring stations

The GCHN is the source data for Hadley CRU's, NASA's GISS and NOAA's NCDC interpretation of the monthly Global Mean temperature

and now

http://climaterealists.com/attachments/ftp/TopClimateScientistsSpeakout.pdf

which throws UAH's MSU interpretation into doubt

That leaves us with just RSS which relies on the Aqua satellite for it's info.

the same Satellite that produces this http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm

So the "evidence" is built on extremely shaky foundations

Still no apologies forthcoming for building a terrifying theory on the back of a house of cards

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

and then you read this.....

http://www.ssmi.com/RFI/radio_frequency_interference.html

Rats that's lot of them

So all of our temperature data is tweaked and cajoled d oh

So all of these figures here http://junkscience.com/MSU_Temps/Warming_Look.html really are Junk Science after all.

sad
