I have been trying to catch the V2s at firesale prices but so far no luck! That is a heck of a deal you got them for! Right now they are twice that price.
----------------------------------------What other machines are you running now? I have a V3/V4 board I am still getting parts for but I am waiting on the memory prices to fall more. So far they are in pretty much in free fall and are predicted to continue until at least 3rd quarter. I am also hoping to rebuild my main computer into a 3rd gen Ryzen/TR later this year but they won't be out until mid to late summer at the earliest. Hey Pandelta!
----------------------------------------I have been trying to catch the V2s at firesale prices but so far no luck! That is a heck of a deal you got them for! Right now they are twice that price. What other machines are you running now? I have a V3/V4 board I am still getting parts for but I am waiting on the memory prices to fall more. So far they are in pretty much in free fall and are predicted to continue until at least 3rd quarter. I am also hoping to rebuild my main computer into a 3rd gen Ryzen/TR later this year but they won't be out until mid to late summer at the earliest. I think I did get the E5 2695 V2 chips in a fire sale. I bought them from ccs_service on eBay. Specs of E5 2695 V2 system: 1. Two E5 2695 V2 Processors running stock (2.4 Ghz) 2. Z9P8-D8 Motherboard 3. Mechanical HD 4. 32 GB or DDR3 RAM 1600Mhz (2x16) 5. EVGA 650 GQ, 80+ Gold 650W (for dual CPU capability) 6. Ubuntu 18.04 (minimal install) 7 Two Noctua NH-U9DX i4 coolers (they will stack next to each other) 8. Case w/ plenty of fans Pros of the system: 1. Generates 120,000 +/- 30,000 WCG points per day 2. Generates around 48 computational days of run time per day 3. Ubuntu does a great job managing CPU and Memory resources 4. No thermal stability issues with proper cooling. Cons of the system: 1. Runs hot! (A pro if it is winter time though )2. Will run out of memory if you run all FAAH Phase 2 Work Units (not much of a con to be honest -- anything will run out of memory with FAAH Phase 2). 3. Is somewhat noisy with all the cooling fans. 4. You have to buy the Z9P8-D8 motherboard used now on ebay. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by thepeacemaker7 at Mar 11, 2019 8:06:35 PM] |

That is a nice setup!
I am still running the 2665 until I can catch either the 2695v2, 2696v2 or the 2695v2 on sale, may have to wait until Black Friday. With the heat being a factor in my garage though I may be better off waiting anyways. I could swing it but on principal I refuse to pay $500 for two processors that old when you can get 1st Gen TRs for that now that are much faster! I did just upgrade the Opteron 6272 to the top of line 6386 SE but it didn't increase points as much as I was hoping. It was a cheap upgrade by comparison at only $180 for two but the server pulls 400 watts @ just 2.8ghz! I can overclock it to 3.2 but I am waiting for awhile for that move. I am also planning on trying Ubuntu on it at some point to see if that helps. I tried Ubuntu on the 4770k and it didn't increase production at all. It decreased in fact. I ended up custom compiling the entire OS and it only improved to what Windows was already doing so I switched it back. From I have researched some projects run better on Windows and some on Linux but so far I haven’t found a list of what does what better. I haven't done FAAH P2 in quite a while. I didn’t know it used that much memory! I will have to give that one a go just for fun. I just upgraded the memory on the 2665 to 64GB of 1866 in anticipation I would end up needing it for something with the eventual move to 48 cores. |

Hello all !
We arrived with Louloup, and some friends of Base Camp, for a trek in your team. I don't know if you know/have heard of it ? Base Camp concept, so with my 'poor' English, I ask to thepeacemaker7 to explain you (if you're OK, my friend) . I hope we spend a good moment. Note : Again without translator, sorry for my mistakes. |

This is an excellent piece you wrote there, stefada
- and what a splendid idea to dig out that little used team thread It's so long ago I saw it that it didn't enter my mind ![]() For old time's sake I did dig out our badge from our very first trek to team Christians ![]() It's from 2004 while many of us crunched with United Devices We used code names for the treks at the time |
