Total points returned today: 446,453 Active members returning points today: 36 Average points per member active today: 12,401.4722 For this time of year, those are some very good numbers! That's a bunch of points for just three dozen folks. I'm sure we'll get back into the 40's as summer comes to an end. Lots of folks take vacations this time of year and we always see sort sort of drop from that (plus the heat). I encourage folks to not hesitate to pop in and say hi here. Some folks that are active but that we haven't heard from in a while: Joost (nl59056), Stephan (Esteban59), Stuart (stares), Vuj and Blueprint from down under, wrr and Tomwp. Folks that are hopefully just on a long vacation or such - Mushball, Bravehart, frans6nl. Last we heard from Fanie, it sounded like they were aging just as gracefully as us old farts here (which is not at all). Hope you're okay! We've all had our shots here and we don't bite so stop by and say hello. |

The dark side is the fun side! GPU crunching is ridiculous compared to CPU crunching. Parallelization is the way of the future! Hey JPF! What vid card you going to run in the oil bath? One with a fan will not work. If you need some 512 or 1 gig DDR2 let me know before I take it to recycling. I'm interest to see how it works out under oil. Uh, it's gonna have a fan. I'm just ripping the fan off the card and using it in passive mode. CPU is going to have a fan on it, so fan running underoil. |

The viscosity of the oil will put a lot more strain on the fan than air will. I'd expect a CPU fan motor would not last very long under such conditions -- maybe only a few seconds or a couple of minutes... and depending on the fan's design, it may draw a lot of current if the motor is being held still. Your CPU fansink could turn into a heater. - D |

Thanks! @Jonathan: CPU is going to have a fan on it, so fan running underoil. 5 will get you 10 the fan will burn out in minutes. I would use the heat sink without the fan. I have one that will work if you want it. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Jul 25, 2009 1:20:32 PM] |

It came with a passive heatsink and a fan blowing on it, NOT ATTACHED TO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
